Barcelona vs Athletic Club 01/02/21

Barcelona and Atheltic Club go head-to-head at Camp Nou in an exciting La Liga showdown.

Barcelona have gone unbeaten in nine La Liga matches on the bounce (W7, D2) since losing 2-1 away at Cadiz on Matchday 12, winning the last four top-flight fixtures via an aggregate score of 10-2. But, Ronald Koeman’s men have drawn both of their previous home La Liga games, conceding the opening goal on each occasion. Atheltic could be the perfect opponent to help the hosts return to winning ways at this ground, considering that 15 of the last 16 top-flight meetings between these sides at Camp Nou have ended in Barca’s favor (W15, D1). Indeed, the Catalan giants last lost a home La Liga match against Atheltic in November 2001! Winning the first half would boost Barcelona’s chances of claiming all three points, as they’ve won all nine La Liga games in which they were leading at half-time this season.

Meanwhile, none of Athletic’s last four La Liga matches have ended in a draw (W2, L2), with the Basque side alternating between a win and a loss on each occasion. However, Marcelino’s men have failed to secure a victory in any of their last seven away La Liga fixtures (D3, L4) despite getting on the scoresheet in six of them. Bilbao’s away league action usually sparks into life after half-time, as evidenced by the fact that 72.73% of their total La Liga goals scored/conceded on the road have come in the second half of play (16/22). Adding to this sentiment, 55.56% of Athletic’s top-flight trips this season have featured a goal inside the final 15 minutes. Worryingly, though, they are one of only two sides yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this term.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur 01/02/21

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on out-of-sorts Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium this weekend.

Brighton have only won once in their last 11 Premier League games (D6, L4), scoring under 1.5 goals on eight of those occasions. Worryingly, the ‘Seagulls’ take the field as the only side in the Premier League yet to taste victory on home soil this season (D6, L4). Moreover, Brighton have not won any of the nine Premier League matches in which they shipped the first goal (D3, L6). Having that said, Graham Potter’s men have found themselves leading at half-time in just one of their ten home league games this term (HT: W1, D7, L2). Indeed, a lack of the first-half action has seen 50% of Brighton’s home Premier League fixtures this season produce a goalless half-time score, with only one of their ten home top-flight outings featuring a goal inside the opening 15 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, the visitors’ four-game unbeaten Premier League run was brought to a halt last time out (W2, D2) thanks to a 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool. Despite suffering just one away league loss this season, a third of Tottenham’s nine Premier League road matches have ended level (W5, D3, L1), with each of those three draws coming in the last five top-flight trips. Notably, though, quick-start Tottenham have won the first half in 11 (57.89%) of their 19 Premier League fixtures this season, avoiding defeat in each such contest (W6, D5). The ‘Spurs’ will be confident of winning here, knowing they’ve outplayed Brighton in ten of their 15 historical Premier League meetings. But, they have endured mixed fortunes in their three Premier League trips to the Amex Stadium since Brighton’s return to the top-flight in 2017/18 (W1, D1, L1).

Cadiz vs Atletico Madrid 31/01/21

Estadio Ramón de Carranza is the venue as Cadiz take on La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in the midst of a cold streak.

Cadiz have failed to win seven of their last eight La Liga matches (D3, L3), a sequence that leaves them hovering between European slots and the relegation places. A lack of firepower up front has seen ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ draw a blank in 62.5% of their last eight top-flight outings, with just three sides netting fewer La Liga goals than Cadiz (17) ahead of the kick-off. Remarkably, though, all 17 of their top-flight strikes this season have come from inside the box! Moreover, Alvaro Cervera’s men can take some comfort in the fact that they’ve avoided defeat in four of their last five home league matches (W2, D2), scoring 2+ goals in three such fixtures. But, conceding the opening goal could lead to one-way traffic, considering Cadiz have lost seven of the nine La Liga games in which they shipped the opener this term (D2).

Coming into this matchday, Atletico Madrid have conceded a league-lowest eight goals this season and are the only side yet to allow double digits. Atleti’s cagey beginnings have seen them let in only three first-half La Liga goals so far, though each of them arrived inside the opening 15 minutes of play. Away from home, ‘Los Colchoneros’ have won six of their previous seven top-flight matches (L1), scoring in both halves in five of those successes. Curiously, each of the last five La Liga matches between Cadiz and Atletico at this venue has seen the visitors score precisely once per game in fixtures garnering under 2.5 total goals (W2, D3). But, it’s worth noting that the last such meeting dates back to March 2006. Yet, Diego Simeone’s men enjoy traveling to Andalusia, having lost only once in their previous 11 La Liga trips to this autonomous community (W6, D4).

West Ham United vs Liverpool 01/02/21

Liverpool will be looking to post their fourth successive Premier League win against West Ham United when the two sides meet at London Stadium.

A 3-2 comeback triumph away at Crystal Palace last time out saw West Ham extend their unbeaten Premier League run to six matches (W4, D2). Curiously, each victory in that period came by a single-goal margin, with the ‘Hammers’ leading at half-time in three. By extension, each of West Ham’s last eight top-flight wins has yielded a narrow one-goal margin, highlighting the potential for a tight contest. At home, David Moyes’ men have only lost once in their last nine Premier League fixtures (W5, D3), scoring the opening goal in seven of them. That’s not so strange, considering they’ve only shipped a league-second joint-lowest three first-half goals at home this term. Scoring could be an issue, though, as West Ham have drawn a blank in two of their last four top-flight H2Hs as hosts, bagging precisely one goal apiece in the other two.

Meanwhile, Liverpool outscored Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 on the road last time out, bringing a 360-minute goal drought in the Premier League to an end. Additionally, before beating Tottenham, the ‘Reds’ had only won one of their eight previous Premier League trips (D5, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on five of those occasions. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men have claimed three victories in their last four top-flight trips to West Ham (D1), netting 3.33 goals on average per win. The reigning English champions have scored the division second-highest 12 second-half goals away from home this season, though they did manage to find the net beyond the 75th minute in just two of their ten Premier League trips so far.

Mohamed Salah could be a difference-maker here, considering he has scored in six of his seven Premier League matches against West Ham since joining Liverpool in 2017.

Wolfsburg vs Freiburg 01/02/21

Wolfsburg and Freiburg are set to face off at Volkswagen Arena in an exciting Bundesliga match.

The hosts have enjoyed an upturn in form lately, going from three consecutive Bundesliga games without winning (D2, L1) to back-to-back victories ‘to nil.’ Coming into this fixture, ‘Die Wölfe’ are one of only two sides yet to lose a single Bundesliga match on home soil this season (W5, D3). But, that streak will be on the line against a team they’ve failed to beat in three of their last four top-flight H2Hs as hosts (D1, L2). By extension, Wolfsburg are currently one five-game winless run in the Bundesliga against Freiburg (D3, L2). Curiously, though, Oliver Glasner’s men boast a tremendous ability to dig themselves out of trouble – Wolfsburg have avoided defeat in seven of the eight Bundesliga matches in which they conceded the first goal this season (W2, D5, L1).

Meanwhile, all six of Freiburg’s last Bundesliga games have produced over 2.5 goals, with five seeing both teams score. Additionally, four of their previous five top-flight fixtures have featured over 1.5 first-half goals, with the opening goal in four coming before or on the 7th minute. Notably, the ‘Breisgau-Brasilianer’ have only lost once in their last ten Bundesliga outings (W6, D3), picking up the division second-most points (21) in that timeframe. Worryingly, though, all of Freiburg’s three away league defeats this season have come against the current top-seven sides, yielding a disastrous aggregate score of 1-9. Yet, ahead of the kick-off, Christian Streich’s men have hit the net in 11 consecutive Bundesliga matches, setting the club’s second-best record.

Napoli vs Parma 01/02/21

Napoli will be looking to return to winning ways in Serie A when they meet out-of-sorts Parma at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this weekend.

Napoli have suffered back-to-back defeats in all competitions after claiming three consecutive triumphs beforehand, with four of those five matches producing over 2.5 goals. In Serie A alone, ‘I Partenopei’ have accrued a win, a draw, and a loss in their last three home games despite scoring the opening goal in two of them. Yet, Gennaro Gattuso’s men will be confident of securing all three points here after winning two of the last three top-flight meetings with Parma in Naples ‘to nil’ (L1). Curiously, just one of the previous 16 Serie A matches between these sides has ended in a draw, with Napoli running out winners in nine of the other 15 (L6). Winning the first half could pave the way for another success, given that the hosts have returned maximum points (21) from the seven Serie A games in which they were leading at half-time this season.

As for Parma, they enter this round winless in ten Serie A matches on the bounce (D4, L6), sitting one point adrift of 17th-placed Torino ahead of the kick-off. A lack of firepower up front has seen ‘I Gialloblu’ fail to get on the scoresheet in four of their last five league outings, losing each such game by at least a two-goal margin. Adding to their misery, Roberto D’Aversa’s men have not kept a clean sheet in any of their nine Serie A trips this season, conceding over 1.5 goals per match in seven of them. Furthermore, lapses in concentration in the later stages have seen Parma let in at least one goal inside the final 15 minutes of play in five of their nine away Serie A games while failing to score in that same timeframe.

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Emirates Stadium is the venue, as Arsenal and Manchester United go head-to-head in a massive, heavyweight Premier League fixture.

Arsenal have hit the ground running in the Premier League since suffering a 2-1 away loss at Everton on Matchday 14, winning five of the subsequent six league matches (D1) by an aggregate score of 14-2. Furthermore, the hosts have gone unbeaten in four home Premier League games on the bounce (W2, D2) since losing 1-0 to Burnley in early December, alternating between a win and a draw on each occasion. Mikel Arteta’s attacking set-up usually sparks into life after half-time, as eight (66.67%) of Arsenal’s 12 home league goals scored this season have come in the second half of play. After winning the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, the ‘Gunners’ are now looking to register a Premier League double over United for only the fourth time. To do that, Arsenal must not concede first, as they’ve failed to win any of the five home Premier League games in which they let in the opener (D1, L4).

A shocking 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United a few days ago saw Manchester United’s stunning 13-game unbeaten Premier League run come to a halt (W10, D3). Moreover, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has failed to win any of the four Premier League matches against Arsenal as a United manager (D1, L3), seeing his team fail to get on the scoresheet on three of those occasions. Indeed, Manchester United have lost four of their last five top-flight trips to the Emirates without scoring (W1). But, the ‘Red Devils’ can take some confidence from the fact that they remain the only side yet to lose a Premier League fixture away from home this season (W8, D2), returning more road points (26) than any other side in the process. Additionally, the visitors have scored a league-highest 24 goals this term, with two-thirds (16) of them coming in the second half of play.

The post Arsenal vs Manchester United appeared first on Bet888win.

Crystal Palace vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers share the same amount of Premier League points (23) ahead of their showdown at Selhurst Park.

Midweek’s 3-2 home loss to West Ham United leaves Crystal Palace at a single triumph in their last nine Premier League matches (D4, L4). What’s more, the ‘Eagles’ have failed to win five of their previous six home league fixtures (D2, L3), scoring under 1.5 goals per game on four of those occasions. It will be a daunting task for Palace to get their league campaign going against a side they’ve failed to beat in their previous three top-flight meetings (D1, L2), losing the last two by the identical 2-0 scoreline. Notably, though, Roy Hodgson’s men have netted a league second-highest seven goals within 15 minutes of play this season, which stands for 29.17% of their total Premier League goals scored so far (27).

Meanwhile, Wolves have gone winless in seven Premier League games on the bounce (D3, L4) since beating Chelsea 2-1 at home on Matchday 13, bagging under 1.5 goals in five such matches. By extension, a lack of ruthlessness in the attacking third has seen the ‘Wanderers’ net a miserly average of 0.9 goals per Premier League trip this season, drawing a blank in three of their last five away league fixtures. The visitors have developed a habit of falling behind without recovering, surrendering the points in five of the six Premier League trips in which they conceded the opening goal this term (D1, L5). But, it’s worth mentioning that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have registered a clear majority (77.78%) of their total league goals scored on the road in the first half of play (7/9).

Leicester City vs Leeds United

Leicester City and Leeds United go head-to-head in their first-ever Premier League meeting at the King Power Stadium.

A run of seven consecutive Premier League matches without a loss (W4, D3) has seen the hosts climb within two points of top-placed Manchester City. Back-to-back Premier League home wins via a 2-0 scoreline is handy coming into this encounter, though the ‘Foxes’ will likely be disappointed by their home results this season (W5, D1, L4). Though none of Leicester’s ten Premier League fixtures this term have ended goalless, Brendan Rodgers’ men have conceded the opening goal in six, ending up winning just one such contest (D1, L4). Interestingly, 60% of Leicester’s home league matches this season have featured over 1.5 first-half goals, highlighting the potential for plenty of early action. Encouragingly for the home side, they’ve won both of their previous competitive meetings with Leeds by at least a two-goal margin despite conceding in each.

Meanwhile, a 2-1 away victory at Newcastle United saw Leeds kick-start the new calendar year after losing their first three competitive matches in 2021 without scoring. The ‘Whites’ have not drawn any of their last ten Premier League fixtures (W5, D5), seven of which saw the winner on the day get on the scoresheet first. Additionally, none of Leeds’ ten away top-flight games this season have ended level (W5, L5), with seven of the matches won/lost in that time witnessing the victor score 3+ goals. Notably, only two sides have scored more away league goals away from home than Leeds (19) this season, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men also one of three teams to reach double digits in terms of the first-half goals scored on the road (10).

Manchester City vs Sheffield United

Rampant Manchester City welcome basement boys Sheffield United to the Etihad Stadium, looking to maintain an almost perfect record in their Premier League H2Hs (W6, D3).

Manchester City have turned into a force to be reckoned with since losing 2-0 away at Tottenham Hotspur in late November, going unbeaten in 18 consecutive matches across all competitions since then (W15, D3), and winning the last 11! Ahead of the kick-off, Pep Guardiola’s men have won seven Premier League games in a row by an aggregate score of 18-1! Additionally, the ‘Sky Blues’ have not conceded a single goal in their last eight competitive home matches versus Sheffield United, though five of them have yielded the same 0-0 scoreline (W3). Remarkably, Manchester City have not lost any of their previous 32 home Premier League fixtures against teams entering the Matchday in the relegation territory (W28, D4), with their last defeat in such contests dating back to November 2008.

On the other hand, Sheffield United take the field after securing a sensational 2-1 away league win at Manchester United. Midweek’s success at Old Trafford was Sheffield’s first Premier League victory on the road this season after a dismal streak of nine away top-flight games without winning (D1, L8). But, for the ‘Blades,’ goals have been at a premium this season, as evidenced by the fact that they’ve netted only 0.6 goals on average per Premier League trip thus far. Chris Wilder’s hopes of seeing his side avoid defeat here will heavily hinge on whether they can prevent City from scoring the first goal – Sheffield United have lost 13 of the 14 Premier League matches in which they conceded the opener this season (D1).

Roma vs Hellas Verona

Roma will be looking to extend their unbeaten home Serie A run against Hellas Verona to 24 matches (W18, D5) when the two sides lock horns at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.

Roma outscored Spezia 4-3 in last weekend’s Serie A thriller, bringing their two-game winless league run to a halt (D1, L1). Indeed, ‘I Giallorossi’ have been a fun team to watch lately, as four of their last five Serie A home matches have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams scoring (W4, D1). Remarkably, Paulo Fonseca’s men head into this encounter as the only side in Serie A yet to lose at home this season (W7, D3), returning the division-best +13 goal difference from such fixtures (GF:25, GA:12). Moreover, going back to 1990, Roma have won ten of their 11 top-flight meetings with Hellas Verona in the capital (D1), scoring 30 goals while conceding 11 in return. However, only 18.92% of Roma’s total Serie A points this season have come against the sides currently in the top half of the table (7/37).

On the other hand, ‘I Gialloblu’ have lost just one of their last five Serie A fixtures (W3, D1), as they enter this round trailing fourth-placed Juventus by six points. Yet, Verona’s recent league matches have been notably tight, as nine of the last ten have seen the teams separated at full-time by under 1.5 goals (W4, D3, L3), with 57.14% of the games won/lost in that time yielding the identical 2-1 scoreline. Additionally, Ivan Juric’s men have conceded a league joint-fewest 18 goals this season, only eight (44.44%) of which arrived away from home. Scoring has been an issue for ‘I Mastini’ of late, though, as they’ve netted under 1.5 goals in each of their last four Serie A trips (W1, D2, L1), with two of their three goals scored in that period coming beyond the 65th minute.

The post Roma vs Hellas Verona appeared first on Bet888win.

Sampdoria vs Juventus

High-flying Juventus head to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to take on a Sampdoria side they’ve outscored in both of their previous Serie A meetings.

A 2-0 away win at Parma last time out means that none of Sampdoria’s previous ten Serie A fixtures have ended in a draw (W5, L5). Curiously, nine of the ten matches won/lost in that abovementioned run of games have seen the victor score 2+ goals, with six of them yielding the identical 2-1 scoreline. What’s more, none of the last 12 Serie A meetings between Sampdoria and Juventus have ended level (W2, L10), with 58.33% of those wins/losses seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. High scoring has been a theme at Luigi Ferraris lately, as each of the last seven competitive matches here has seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, Juventus have claimed three multi-goal wins ‘to nil’ in a row since losing 2-0 away at Internazionale a fortnight ago, scoring at least once beyond the hour mark on each occasion. Before losing at Inter, the reigning Italian champions had scored 3+ goals in three consecutive Serie A trips, netting over 1.5 second-half goals in each. Late action has highlighted Juve’s away league games this season, as five of the nine have featured a goal inside the final 15 minutes of play. Quick-start Juventus have found the opening goal in the division third-high 66.67% of their Serie A matches this term. Moreover, ‘I Bianconeri’ have rarely been knocked off their perch after winning the first half this season, winning five of the seven Serie A fixtures in which they were leading at half-time (D2).

Bologna vs AC Milan 30/01/21

AC Milan will be looking to return to winning ways in Serie A when they take on Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara this weekend.

A 2-0 away loss at Juventus last time out saw ‘I Rossoblù’ fail to win nine of their previous ten Serie A matches (D5, L4), conceding 2+ goals per game seven times in the process. Interestingly, six of Bologna’s last eight league goals let in have come before the hour mark. The Greyhounds will hardly face a more formidable opponent than a Milan side they last won against in Serie A in January 2016. In fact, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s have lost 16 of their previous 22 top-flight meetings with Milan (W1, D5), failing to win any of their last 14 Serie A encounters at Renato Dall’Ara (D4, L10)! Furthermore, Bologna have drawn a blank in three of their last five top-flight H2Hs as hosts, which has been the case only once in their nine Serie A home games this season.

Meanwhile, Milan surrendered a half-time lead to lose 2-1 to Internazionale in the Coppa Italia midweek, stretching their losing run to two games in all competitions. Indeed, ‘I Rossoneri’ succumbed to a disastrous 3-0 defeat to Atalanta at home on Matchday 19, marking the first Serie A match in which they failed to get on the scoresheet since January 2020. However, Stefano Pioli’s men could set a new club record if they find the net here, as they’ve managed to score in 19 consecutive Serie A trips ahead of this fixture. Remarkably, the current table-toppers have netted over 1.5 goals in each of their last 15 away league games and are one of only three Serie A sides to smash an away 10-goal first-half barrier this season.

Internazionale vs Benevento 31/01/21

Internazionale will be looking to keep their momentum going when they meet out-of-sorts Benevento at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this weekend.

Fresh from dumping cross-town rivals AC Milan from the Coppa Italia, Inter will be looking to extend their unbeaten Serie A streak to four games (W1, D2). Remarkably, Antonio Conte’s men have won each of their last six Serie A home matches, scoring 18 goals while conceding only six in return! Additionally, ‘I Nerazzurri’ have won each of their four competitive meetings with Benevento this millennium by an aggregate score of 15-5. Adding to this sentiment, Inter boast the second-best goal-scoring record in Europe’s top-five leagues post lockdown, having netted 77 goals since the resumption of football in May 2020. Tremendously prolific after the half-time break, the hosts have registered a clear majority (72%) of their Serie A goals scored at home this season in the second half of play (18/25).

As for Benevento, they have let in over 1.5 goals in each of their last three Serie A outings (D1, L2), with seven of their ten goals conceded in that time coming in the second half. The visitors can take some confidence from the fact that they’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their last four away league matches, conceding precisely once per game in two of the other three. Interestingly, none of the five Serie A trips in which ‘Gli Stregoni’ shipped the opening goal this season have ended in a draw (W2, L3). Filippo Inzaghi’s men have posed a real threat from set-pieces this season, scoring the division second-high 12 goals from such plays. Early action has highlighted Benevento’s road fixtures this season, as five of their nine away Serie A games have featured a goal within 15 minutes.

Borussia Dortmund vs Augsburg 30/01/21

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to settle the score with Augsburg after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the reverse Bundesliga fixture when the two sides meet at Signal Iduna Park this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund seem to have lost ground lately, going from back-to-back Bundesliga triumphs to three consecutive league matches without winning (D1, L2). At home, ‘Die Borussen’ have avoided defeat in their last two Bundesliga outings (W1, D1) after suffering three consecutive home league losses beforehand. Dortmund will be confident of maintaining their promising home run against a side they’ve not lost to in any of their last five top-flight meetings held at Signal Iduna Park (W3, D2). However, the ‘clean-sheet’ theme appears to be well off the table, given that Dortmund have failed to register a single shutout in any of their last 14 Bundesliga matches against Augsburg. It’s worth noting that all of Borussia’s six competitive home victories this season have yielded a clean sheet and multi-goal margins.

Meanwhile, Augsburg claimed a tight 2-1 home win over Union Berlin last time out, bringing a three-game losing Bundesliga streak to a halt. Curiously, none of their previous seven top-flight matches have ended in a draw (W3, L4), with five of those results (win/lost) seeing the victor preserve a blank sheet. Low scoring has been a theme for the ‘Fuggerstädter’ away from home this season, as only three (37.5%) of their eight Bundesliga trips have produced over 2.5 goals. Augsburg’s away action usually sparks into life after the half-time break, as evidenced by the fact that 72.22% of their total league goals scored/conceded on the road have come in the second half of play (13/18). Against that low-scoring backdrop, both of their previous Bundesliga visits to Signal Iduna Park have seen over 5.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (L2).

Olympique Marseille vs Rennes 31/01/21

Stade Vélodrome is the venue, as out-of-form Olympique Marseille take on Rennes in an exciting Ligue 1 match-up.

Marseille head into this encounter on the back of four consecutive defeats in all competitions, three of which came by a narrow one-goal margin. In Ligue 1 alone, ‘Les Phocéens’ have lost five of their last eight matches (W1, D2), with three of those losses producing the identical 2-1 scoreline. That’s not the kind of statistic Marseille will be looking to dwell on ahead of their clash against a side they’ve failed to beat in their last three top-flight meetings held at this venue (D2, L1). Both teams to score could be a theme, considering that four of the previous five Ligue 1 encounters between Andre Villas-Boas’ men and Rennes here have seen both sides hit the net, which has been the case in eight of Marseille’s last nine home league fixtures.

Meanwhile, a 1-0 home defeat to Lille last time out saw Rennes’ seven-match unbeaten Ligue 1 streak come to an end (W5, D2). As a result, ‘Les Rennais’ have now failed to keep a clean sheet in three league games in a row after registering three consecutive shutouts prior to that run. Interestingly, seven of Rennes’ last nine competitive away fixtures have seen one or both teams fail to get on the scoresheet (W3, D2, L4), with three of the seven games won/lost in that period yielding the identical 3-0 scoreline. Having that said, it may come as some surprise that Julien Stephan’s men have suffered only one loss in four Ligue 1 trips in which they conceded the opening goal this season (W1, D2). But, Rennes boast the ability to finish their away matches strongly, as evidenced by the fact they have not conceded inside the final 15 minutes in any of their ten Ligue 1 trips this term.

RB Leipzig vs Bayer Leverkusen 31/01/21

The two sides that have had identical returns from their last five Bundesliga fixtures (W2, D1, L2) will meet at the Red Bull Arena, as RB Leipzig take on Bayer Leverkusen.

After staying rock-solid at the back for the majority of the season, Leipzig have conceded over 1.5 goals in three of their last four Bundesliga matches, letting in a total of eight. Yet, no team has shipped fewer home league goals than ‘Die Roten Bullen’ (6) this season, with Julian Naglesmann’s men keeping a clean sheet in 55.56% of their Bundesliga home outings (5/9). But, it will be a daunting task for the hosts to shut out a Bayer Leverkusen side they’ve failed to prevent from scoring in six of their previous seven top-flight meetings, including the last four. Though they go into this encounter on the back of a dismal 3-2 loss at Mainz 05, Leipzig can find some comfort in the fact they have not lost back-to-back Bundesliga games since April 2017! Leipzig could pose an attacking threat in the first half, where they’ve racked up the division joint-high ten home goals so far.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen have stumbled out of the blocks on the back of the Bundesliga restart in 2021. Indeed, both of their league trips since the calendar flipped have seen ‘Die Werkself’ lose by a single-goal margin after registering four away Bundesliga wins on the bounce beforehand. Leverkusen’s cagey first-half approach has witnessed Peter Bosz’s men concede a league joint-low two away goals before half-time this term. Another bright spot has been their ability to dig themselves out of trouble – Bayer have lost just a third of their Bundesliga fixtures in which they conceded the opening goal this season (W2, D2, L2). Interestingly, though, Peter Bosz has failed to beat RB Leipzig as a manager in all five Bundesliga attempts so far (D3, L2).

Real Madrid vs Levante 30/01/21

Real Madrid’s pursuit of La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid continues this weekend, as they welcome Levante to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Real Madrid swept aside Deportivo Alaves 4-1 on the road last time out, extending their unbeaten run in La Liga to nine games (W7, D2). At home, ‘Los Blancos’ have won each of their four previous league fixtures via a two-goal margin, with three of them yielding the same 2-0 scoreline. Winning the first half could pave the way for another success, as Zinedine Zidane’s men have won all four La Liga home fixtures this season in which they were leading at half-time. However, in three of the four league games in which they were trailing at the break, they lost (W1). Additionally, ‘Los Merengues’ have only won once in their previous three top-flight meetings with Levante in Madrid (D1, L1), conceding exactly twice per game in the last two.

On the other hand, Levante have scored precisely two goals per match in their last three La Liga outings (W1, D2), with four of their six goals scored in that sequence coming beyond the 60-minute mark. Indeed, the visitors have been a fun team to watch lately, as six of their last seven league fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W3, D3, L1). But, Paco Lopez’s men have often faltered on the road this season, losing five of their ten La Liga trips while winning just one of the other five (D4). Although Levante have conceded the opening goal in a league joint-high 13 matches this season, no team has returned more points after falling behind than them (14)! Curiously, 11 (57.89%) of their 19 La Liga games this term have featured a goal inside the final 15 minutes of play.

Villarreal vs Real Sociedad 31/01/21

Real Sociedad (6th) travel to the Estadio de la Ceramica, looking to take all three points and Villarreal’s (5th) place in the La Liga table.

Villarreal boast an almost perfect competitive record in 2021 (W5, D2), having kept a clean sheet in four of their last five matches in all competitions. But, ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ have gone from back-to-back La Liga victories to two consecutive draws, both of which saw the score level at half-time. Estadio de la Ceramica has been a fortress the Villarreal fans have been hoping for this season (W5, D5), with Unai Emery’s men scoring 2+ goals in 60% of their home league outings thus far. As such, they will be confident of ending Real Sociedad’s two-game winning La Liga run at this venue. High scoring could be a theme, as each of their last four top-flight meetings here has seen over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring (W2, L2), with three of them yielding the identical 2-1 scoreline.

On the other hand, Real Sociedad have endured a torrid start to the new calendar year, claiming just one win in their six competitive matches since the turn of 2021 (D2, L3). By extension, Imanol Alguacil’s men have only won once in their last ten La Liga fixtures (D5, L4), scoring under 1.5 goals per game eight times in the process. None of Sociedad’s previous four away league matches have ended in a draw (W1, L3), with each win/loss in that period coming by a single-goal margin. Notably, quick-start ‘La Real’ have scored the opening goal (if any) in seven of their ten La Liga trips this season. However, Sociedad’s inability to fully recover after falling behind has seen them fail to win any of the six league games in which they conceded the first goal (D3, L3).

Bayern Munich vs TSG Hoffenheim 30/01/21

Bayern Munich will be looking to erase the memory of a 4-1 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim from the first half of the Bundesliga season when the two teams meet at the Allianz Arena this weekend.

Bayern Munich have put together three consecutive Bundesliga triumphs since losing 3-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach on Matchday 15, scoring seven goals while conceding one in return during that run. Free-scoring ‘Bavarians’ have already netted 53 top-flight goals this season, equaling the record for this stage of the campaign set by Werder Bremen in 1985/86. What’s more, Hansi Flick’s men have scored 3.75 goals per home Bundesliga match on average this term, mustering a total of 30 after just eight home league outings. High-octane second-half performances have seen the reigning German champions notch up the division-high 20 home goals after half-time this season. Bayern could add to their impressive tally now, as they take on a side they’ve scored 2+ goals against in ten of their 12 Bundesliga meetings held in Munich.

Ahead of the kick-off, Hoffenheim have kept a clean sheet in three consecutive Bundesliga matches (W2, D1), winning the last two via the same 3-0 scoreline. However, before claiming those back-to-back victories, ‘Die Kraichgauer’ had won just two of their 14 Bundesliga fixtures (D4, L8), scoring under 1.5 goals 11 times in that span. Moreover, the visitors have failed to establish consistency on the road lately, winning two of their previous four league trips while losing the other two, with three of the games won/lost in that period seeing the victor score 3+ goals. Another high-scoring contest is well on the cards, given that each of Hoffenheim’s last three top-flight visits to the Allianz Arena has seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W1, L2).

Napoli vs Spezia 29/01/21

Stadio San Paolo is the venue, as Napoli and Spezia lock horns in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Napoli went down 3-1 at Hellas Verona in the Serie A weekend despite breaking the deadlock in the first minute of the game, meaning none of their last seven competitive fixtures have ended in a draw (W4, L3). Curiously, five of the seven matches won/lost during the abovementioned period saw the victor fail to keep a clean sheet. At home, ‘I Partenopei’ have suffered only one defeat in their last eight competitive games (W5, D2), courtesy of a 2-1 loss to Spezia at this venue back on January 6. Napoli had boasted a 100% H2H record versus Spezia beforehand (W3), winning two of their three such meetings by the identical 3-1 scoreline. Notably, Gennaro Gattuso’s men have found the net in nine consecutive home fixtures in all competitions, scoring a minimum of two on five occasions.

Meanwhile, Spezia head into this encounter on the back of a 4-3 Serie A loss at Roma, which has brought their four-game unbeaten run to a halt (W3, D1). High scoring has been a theme for ‘Aquilotti’ away from home lately, as eight of their last nine competitive games on the road have produced over 2.5 goals, with six seeing both teams score. However, a lackluster defending has witnessed Vincenzo Italiano’s men conceded over 1.5 goals in five of their previous eight competitive trips, with 11 of their 15 goals shipped across those fixtures coming in the second half of play. Yet, Spezia have impressed in the final third in the recent period, scoring 2+ goals in four of their last five competitive games.

Olympique Lyonnais vs Bordeaux 30/01/21

Olympique Lyonnais and Bordeaux go head-to-head at the Groupama Stadium, as the home side look to stretch their unbeaten run in their Ligue 1 H2Hs to six matches (W2, D3).

Lyon’s reaction to a shocking 1-0 home defeat to Metz on Matchday 20 was a 5-0 thumping of Saint-Etienne on the road last time out, as they sit two points adrift of top-placed PSG ahead of the kick-off. Before losing to Metz, ‘Les Gones’ had gone unbeaten in nine consecutive Ligue 1 home fixtures (W6, D3), scoring over 1.5 goals on seven of those occasions. Indeed, Rudi Garcia’s men have netted 13 first-half league goals at home this season, a tally only bettered by Brest (15). Another bright spot has been Lyon’s ability to grind out a result after falling behind – they have avoided defeat in seven of the nine Ligue 1 matches in which they shipped the opener this season (W2, D5).

In the meantime, ‘Les Girondins’ have racked up a four-game unbeaten Ligue 1 streak (W3, D1) since succumbing to a 3-1 home loss to Reims on Matchday 1, scoring 2+ goals in each victory in that run. Interestingly, five of Bordeaux’s last seven away league games have seen one or both sides fail to find the net (W3, D2, L2), with three of the five fixtures won/lost in that period yielding at least a two-goal margin. Jean-Louis Gasset’s men have been vulnerable before half-time this season, registering 61.54% of their Ligue 1 goals conceded on the road in the first half of play (8/13). Encouragingly for the visitors, they have not lost any of their four previous Ligue 1 trips to Lyon (W1, D3), scoring precisely three goals per game twice in that period.

Stuttgart vs Mainz 05 30/01/21

Relegation-threatened Mainz 05 travel to the Mercedes-Benz Arena to meet Stuttgart, looking to win back-to-back Bundesliga games for the first time this season.

Warming up for this fixture, ‘Die Schwaben’ have won just one of their last seven Bundesliga matches (D2, L4), conceding over 1.5 goals in four of them. Yet, the Mercedes-Benz Arena has been a venue of entertainment lately, as four of the last four top-flight games here have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (D2, L2), with both draws coming by the identical 2-2 scoreline. Curiously, none of the last five Bundesliga meetings between Stuttgart and Mainz held at this stadium have ended level (W2, L3), with the sides alternating between a win and a loss on each occasion. Stuttgart’s hopes of winning here will heavily hinge on whether they can avoid conceding the opening goal – they have not performed a single comeback in five Bundesliga home games when shipping the first goal (D3, L2).

As for Mainz, they pulled out a remarkable turnaround to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 at home last time out, putting an end to their disastrous nine-game winless Bundesliga streak (D3, L6). However, that victory against Leipzig was also the only time that Bo Svensson’s men have bounced back after falling behind in a Bundesliga fixture this term (L10). Additionally, ‘Die Nullfünfer’ have won just one of their eight away league matches this season (D2, L5), returning a dismal -10 goal difference from those trips (GF:9, GA:19). Particularly vulnerable after the half-time break, the visitors have conceded a league-high 13 second-half goals on the road this season. In return, they’ve scored just four times in that same timeframe.

Torino vs Fiorentina 30/01/21

Torino will be looking to end a two-game goal drought against Fiorentina in Serie A (L2) when the two sides meet at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino.

Torino have gone winless in four consecutive Serie A games (D3, L1) since winning 3-0 at Parma on Matchday 15, as they head into this encounter level on points with 18th-placed Cagliari. What’s more, the ‘Maroons’ are the only team in the Italian top-flight yet to taste victory on home soil this season (D5, L4), despite scoring the opening goal (if any) in 44.44% of their Serie A home outings so far. Having that said, Torino have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight top-flight meetings with Fiorentina here (W3, D4), with four of the matches won/lost in that sequence yielding the identical 2-1 scoreline. But, Davide Nicola’s men have developed a habit of falling behind without recovering, surrendering the points in six of the eight league games in which they conceded the first goal this term (D2, L6).

On the other hand, none of the visitors’ last four Serie A fixtures have ended in a draw (W2, L2), with Fiorentina alternating between a win and a loss on each occasion. Regardless, their recent league matches have been notably tight, six of the last eight seeing the sides separated at full-time by under 1.5 goals (W3, D3, L2). Interestingly, seven of Fiorentina’s eight previous away Serie A games have seen one or both teams fail to get on the scoresheet (W1, D1, L5), with five of those results (win/loss) featuring at least a two-goal margin. Therefore, conceding the opening goal could prove fatal to Cesare Prandelli’s hopes of winning here, especially considering that his men have lost all five Serie A trips in which they shipped the opener this season.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool 29/01/21

High-flying Tottenham Hotspur and out-of-sorts Liverpool are set to face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a massive, heavyweight Premier League showdown.

A 4-1 comeback triumph against Wycombe in the FA Cup weekend saw Tottenham extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games (W6, D2). While both of their draws in that eight-match sequence came by the same 1-1 scoreline, Jose Mourinho’s men netted an intimidating average of 3.33 goals per game across the six successes. However, the ‘Spurs’ have failed to impress at home in the Premier League this season, winning just 44.44% of their matches (W4, D3, L2), with both defeats coming against the current top-six sides. Quick out of the blocks, Tottenham have opened the scoring in a league second-high 66.67% of top-flight fixtures this term. Though they have not lost any of their 12 Premier League matches when breaking the deadlock, Tottenham have won only seven such contests (D5).

Meanwhile, Liverpool go into this clash on the back of a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United in the FA Cup weekend, meaning they’ve picked up only one victory in their last seven competitive outings (D3, L3). Worryingly, the ‘Reds’ have failed to get on the scoresheet in four Premier League matches on the bounce ahead of the kick-off. Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp’s men have won only one of their last eight away league games (D5, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals per match five times in that run. Liverpool can find some comfort in the fact that they’ve defeated Tottenham in both of their previous top-flight meetings held at this venue. Another success here would see the Merseyside outfit win three Premier League away matches in a row against the ‘Spurs’ for the first time in their history.

Eveton vs Leicester City

Goodison Park is the venue, as Everton and Leicester City go head-to-head in a massive Premier League showdown.
None of Everton’s last six Premier League games have ended in a draw (W5, L1), with five of the matches won/lost in that period producing a narrow one-goal margin! Also, Goodison Park has witnessed some tight league contests lately, as five of the previous six Premier League fixtures here have seen the sides separated at full-time by under 1.5 goals (W2, D1, L3). Yet, the ‘Toffees’ have won both of their previous top-flight meetings with Leicester and will be looking to secure three triumphs in a row for the first time since 1980. A rock-solid backline could help Everton achieve that goal, considering they have conceded just 0.6 goals per match on average across their last five Premier League outings. At the other end of the pitch, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have netted under 1.5 goals in four of their previous five home league fixtures!

As for Leicester, they’ve enjoyed a stellar calendar year so far, winning all of their five competitive matches since the calendar flipped by scoring at least twice in each. In the Premier League alone, the ‘Foxes’ have gone unbeaten in six consecutive fixtures (W4, D2) since succumbing to a 2-0 home loss precisely to Everton on Matchday 13. Curiously, Brendan Rodgers’ men have scored exactly two goals per game in five of their last six league outings, mustering seven of their 11 goals netted in that sequence before the 60-minute mark. Remarkably, the visitors have racked up seven victories in their nine Premier League trips this season (D1, L1), securing at least a two-goal margin in four! Leicester have registered a clear majority (75%) of their total league goals scored on the road this term in the second half (15/20), finding the net inside the final 15 minutes of play in two-thirds of their Premier League trips so far.

Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

The two struggling teams will lock horns at Stamford Bridge this weekend, as Chelsea meet Wolverhampton Wanderers in an exciting Premier League fixture.

A string of underwhelming performances has seen Chelsea sack the manager Frank Lampard after the ‘Blues’ lost five of their last eight Premier League matches (W2, D1). Wolverhampton could be the perfect opponent for the out-of-sorts London giants to rediscover their mojo, knowing Chelsea have won five of their six top-flight meetings at Stamford Bridge this millennium (D1). Interestingly, each of Chelsea’s five Premier League triumphs against Wolves in the 21st century has yielded a winning margin of at least two goals, which has been the case in all of their four league victories this season. Winning the first half would increase the hosts’ chances of wrapping up all three points, as they’ve won five (71.43%) of the six Premier League games when doing so (D2).

Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo could face Lampard’s destiny should his side falter here, as Wolves enter this round winless in six Premier League fixtures in a row (D2, L4). Away from home, the ‘Wanderers’ have lost three of their last four top-flight matches (D1), conceding ten goals while scoring only four in return! Additionally, the visitors have often failed to impress in the first half this season, finding themselves leading at half-time in just 26.32% of their Premier League games thus far (5/19). Indeed, Wolves have conceded the opening goal in two-thirds of their league trips this campaign (6/9), rescuing just a single point from such contests (D1, L5). Having that said, it may come as some surprise that the majority (57.14%) of their league goals scored this term have come in the first 45 minutes of play (12/21).

Juventus vs SPAL

Juventus will be looking to book their place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals when they take on SPAL at the Allianz Stadium this weekend.

Juventus’ last three competitive games have yielded the identical 2-0 scoreline (W2, L1), with the victor scoring at least once in the second half in each. Juve survived a late scare in the previous Coppa Italia round, overcoming Genoa 3-2 only after the extra-time drama. But, Allianz Stadium has been a fortress this calendar year, with Andrea Pirlo’s men winning all five of their competitive fixtures here (extra-time included), scoring over 1.5 goals in each. Additionally, ‘I Binaconeri’ have won each of their three competitive meetings with SPAL in Turin via an aggregate score of 8-1. As for domestic competitions, Juventus have found themselves leading at half-time in six of the ten matches this season, ending up winning four such contests (D2), if considering only 90 minutes of play.

On the other hand, the Serie B minnows have had to go past four Coppa Italia rounds to set up this fixture, eliminating the likes of Bari, Crotone, Monza, and Sassuolo en route to reaching the competition’s quarter-finals. Remarkably, SPAL have yet to concede from open play in Coppa Italia this season, with their only goal shipped so far coming from the spot. Low scoring has been a theme for ‘Gli Spallini’ on the road this term, as nine of their 12 competitive away matches have featured under 2.5 goals, including eight of the last nine. Having that said, Pasquale Marino’s men have drawn a blank in three of their previous six competitive trips, scoring precisely twice in two of the other three. In turn, SPAL have netted under 1.5 goals in five of their six competitive meetings with Juventus this millennium (W1, D1, L4).

Atalanta vs Lazio

Fresh from dismantling AC Milan 3-0 in the Serie A weekend, Atalanta will be looking to keep the momentum going when they meet Lazio at the Gewiss Stadium in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Atalanta will be full of confidence about reaching the Copa Italia semis, as they take the field after racking up a 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W8, D5). Notably, Gian Piero Gasperini seems to have managed to shore up his team’s defensive issues, as ‘La Dea’ have conceded one goal or less in 12 of their last 13 competitive outings! Prolific as usual, Atalanta have scored over 2.5 goals in five of their seven previous games in all competitions, mustering a total of 19! In Bergamo, the hosts had netted 3+ goals per match in five consecutive games before being held to a dismal goalless draw to Genoa a fortnight ago. In turn, they have scored precisely three goals per game in three of their last five competitive meetings with Lazio at this venue!

Meanwhile, Lazio have hit the purple patch since the turn of the year (W5, D1), putting together five competitive victories ahead of the kick-off. Curiously, three of their five wins in 2021 have come by the identical 2-1 scoreline, with ‘I Biancocelesti’ getting on the scoresheet within 25 minutes on each occasion. However, Simone Inzaghi’s men have picked up only one triumph in their last four away matches (D2, L1), three of which featured under 2.5 total goals. What’s more, Lazio have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their previous six competitive trips, though they did manage to restrict their opponents to precisely one goal in four of them. The ‘blank-sheet’ theme appears to be well off the table, considering they have conceded at least once in seven of their last eight competitive trips to Atalanta.

Manchester United vs Sheffield United

Premier League leaders Manchester United welcome basement boys Sheffield United to Old Trafford, looking to maintain an astonishing league form.

Manchester United head into this encounter on the back of an impressive 13-game undefeated Premier League run (W10, D3), having won three of their four top-flight matches via a single-goal margin since the calendar flipped (D1). It’s worth noting that only a third (12) of United’s 36 top-flight goals scored this season have come on home soil, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men finding the net within 15 minutes in just two of their nine Premier League home outings so far. However, going back to 1990, the ‘Red Devils’ have won each of their six Premier League meetings with Sheffield United at Old Trafford, netting an average of 2.33 goals in the process. Additionally, Manchester United have won all of their five league matches against the current bottom-five this season, scoring over 1.5 goals in four of them.

On the other hand, Sheffield are sinking without a trace after losing 84.21% of their Premier League matches this season and scoring 0.52 goals per game on average! Worryingly, the ‘Blades’ have lost eight of their nine away top-flight fixtures this term (D1), scoring just four goals while conceding 17 in return. Letting in the opening goal could lead to another upset, considering that Chris Wilder’s men have lost 13 of the 14 Premier League games in which they conceded first this season (D1). That said, Sheffield United face an uphill task of at least scoring here, as they’ve drawn a blank in six of their previous seven competitive trips to Old Trafford, last scoring at this venue in 1993! Bringing the 2019/20 campaign into the equation, Sheffield have scored under 1.5 goals in 20 consecutive Premier League matches on the road!

Crystal Palace vs West Ham United 27/01/21

Out-of-sorts Crystal Palace entertain in-form West Ham United at Selhurst Park in exciting Premier League showdown. Notably, each of their last seven top-flight meetings has seen both teams score, with four of those fixtures producing over 2.5 total goals.

Severely crippled by injuries, Crystal Palace will be desperate to at least find the net after drawing a blank in their last three competitive fixtures (D1, L2). The ‘Eagles’ have been struggling to deliver consistency in recent times, accruing two wins, two draws, and a pair of losses in their previous six Premier League home outings, four of which featured under 2.5 goals. For Palace, goals have been in short supply this season, as they’ve netted one goal or less in seven of their eight home league matches. However, if Roy Hodgson’s men get on the scoresheet here, they are likely to do it before half-time, considering they’ve registered a clear majority (72.73%) of their total Premier League goals scored at home in the first half of play (8/11).

On the other hand, West Ham have been going from strength to strength since suffering a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea in early December, going unbeaten in seven competitive games in a row since then (W5, D2), and winning the last five. In the Premier League alone, the ‘Hammers’ have kept a blank sheet in three of their four previous matches (W3, D1). But, they netted under 1.5 goals three times across that same four-game sequence. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme remains quite significant in the context of West Ham’s recent away fixtures, as five of the last six have seen one or both sides fail to hit the net. Despite succumbing to a 2-1 loss at Selhurst Park last season, the visitors can find some comfort in the fact they have never lost back-to-back Premier League games at this venue.

Southampton vs Arsenal 27/01/21

Southampton and Arsenal will lock horns at St. Mary’s Stadium for the second time in a matter of days, as the home side ran out 1-0 winners when they met in the FA Cup weekend.

Low scoring has been a theme for Southampton lately, as each of their previous eight competitive fixtures has featured under 2.5 goals, with the last seven seeing one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet. In turn, though just one of their eight previous Premier League home matches has ended in a draw (W5, D1, L2), six of the games won/lost in that period have seen the victor register a shutout. However, it’s worth noting that the ‘Saints’ have netted the fewest goals of all upper-half-of-the-table sides so far this season (26). Indeed, lackluster attacking performances have witnessed Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men score under 1.5 goals in seven of their previous eight games across all competitions. Yet, they have been quite lethal in the first half, as evidenced by the fact that nine (64.29%) of their 14 league goals scored at home this term have come before half-break.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have enjoyed an upturn in form lately, going from seven consecutive Premier League games without winning (D2, L5) to five league matches without losing on the bounce (W4, D1). Remarkably, Mikel Arteta’s men have not only preserved a blank sheet in four successive top-flight fixtures (W3, D1), but two of their three victories in that period have seen them score at least three goals! After securing a comfortable 2-0 win at St. Mary’s Stadium last season, the ‘Gunners’ will be seeking back-to-back Premier League triumphs at this venue for the first time since 1997! Playing in their favor is the fact that they’ve suffered just one defeat in their previous ten top-flight meetings with Southampton (W5, D4).

Internazionale vs AC Milan 27/01/21

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is the venue, as Internazionale and AC Milan go head-to-head in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Given Inter and Milan’s footballing stature, it may come as some surprise that they’ll meet in this competition for only the second time in the 21st century.

A dip in form has seen Inter go from five consecutive victories to winning just once in their last five competitive outings (D3, L1) if considering only 90 minutes of play. Before being held to a goalless away draw to Udinese at the weekend, ‘I Nerazzurri’ had got on the scoresheet in nine competitive matches in a row, scoring 2+ goals in six of them. At home, Antonio Conte’s men have lost just one of their nine domestic fixtures this season (W7, D1), though that reverse came at the hands of Milan (2-1 in October 2020). However, Inter had avoided defeat in nine home meetings with cross-town rivals on the bounce prior to the abovementioned loss (W6, D3) despite netting under 1.5 goals on five of those occasions.

Meanwhile, Milan head into this encounter on the back of a disastrous 3-0 home loss to Atalanta, which saw them fail to score for only the third time in 26 competitive games this season. Indeed, Stefano Pioli’s men have been prolific lately, scoring over 1.5 goals in seven of their last ten competitive fixtures! Since the beginning of the season, Milan have netted at least twice in ten of their 12 competitive trips, scoring precisely once in the other two. Remarkably, ‘I Rossoneri’ have not lost any of their previous 22 competitive away matches, the 2019/20 campaign included (W15, D7), with their last defeat in such contest coming precisely against Inter (4-2 in February 2020). Another encouragement for the visitors is that they’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their last five away games in all competitions, including both this calendar year.

West Brom vs Manchester City 27/01/21

Relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion welcome a high-flying Manchester City side to The Hawthorns, hoping to put an end to their four-game losing Premier League home streak.

It’s been a dreadful Premier League campaign for West Brom thus far, as they take the field after winning just two of their 19 league matches this season (D5, L12). It will be a daunting prospect for WBA to get their season up and running here, as they meet a side they’ve failed to beat in each of their last 18 Premier League matches (D2, L16)! Another worrying fact is that the ‘Baggies’ have conceded the opening goal in the division-high 14 games this term, avoiding defeat in just three such contests (D3, L11). Surprisingly for this stage of the season, Sam Allardyce’s men have not scored a single second-half goal at home in the Premier League, mustering all five home league goals netted so far in the first half of play.

As for Manchester City, they performed a late comeback to defeat lower-league side Cheltenham 3-1 in the FA Cup weekend, extending their winning run in all competitions to ten games! In the Premier League alone, Pep Guardiola’s men have gone unbeaten in ten matches (W8, D2) since losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 9, keeping a clean sheet on eight of those occasions! Indeed, the ‘Sky Blues’ boast the best defensive record in the English top-flight this season, having registered a shutout in 55.56% of their 18 league fixtures thus far, letting in only 13 goals in total! However, the visitors have won just four of their eight Premier League trips this term (D3, L1), scoring an average of only 1.25 goals per away league game in the process. Curiously, though, eight of their ten Premier League goals netted on the road this season have come before half-time!
