Adelaide United vs Sydney FC

Adelaide United and Sydney FC go head-to-head at Coopers Stadium in the penultimate round of the regular A-League season.

Adelaide have alternated between winning (2) and losing (2) across their last four A-League outings since being held to a goalless home draw to Wellington Phoenix in early May. While both of their victories in that stretch came by the identical 1-0 scoreline, each defeat saw Adelaide concede precisely two second-half goals. Heading into this fixture, the hosts haven’t lost any of their last eight home league matches (W5, D3) since suffering a 2-1 loss to Perth Glory at the beginning of February. Defensively robust, Carl Veart’s men have kept a clean sheet in four of their previous six home A-League games, including the last three in a row, all of which featured under 1.5 FT goals. Against this low-scoring backdrop, four of the last five top-flight H2Hs held here have seen both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors have enjoyed an upturn in form ahead of this trip, going from back-to-back league games without winning (D1, L1) to three victories on the bounce, all of which saw them register a shutout. Indeed, the ‘clean-sheet’ theme has been of the essence for Sydney’s away success this season, with three of their four A-League triumphs on the road coming ‘to nil.’ Having that said, the ‘Sky Blues’ have failed to preserve a blank sheet in three of their last four away league matches, conceding an average of 2.00 goals across such fixtures. Sydney’s attacking set-up usually sparks into life after the half-time break, as witnessed by the fact that 83.33% of their away A-League goals scored so far arrived in the second half of play (15/18).

Atlanta United vs Nashville SC

Atlanta United will play host to Nashville SC at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, looking to extend their unbeaten MLS run to four (W1, D2).

It’s been a decent start to the season for Atlanta so far, as they join proceedings having suffered just one reverse in their opening six MLS fixtures (W2, D3). However, a lack of firepower in the front third has seen United net under 1.5 goals in five of their six league games this season, including the last three in a row. At home, the ‘Five Stripes’ have won both of their MLS matches thus far, scoring first and finding the net on or beyond the 85-minute mark on each occasion. None of Atlanta’s three MLS meetings with Nashville have ended level (W2, L1), with each result (win/loss) seeing the victor score the first-half opener. Also, two of those three H2Hs saw over 2.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet.

Alongside Orlando City, Nashville are the only franchise in the Eastern Conference yet to taste defeat this MLS season. But the visitors have established themselves as ‘stalemate specialists,’ having drawn four of their opening six league fixtures (W2). After being held to identical 2-2 ties to Montreal and Cincinnati, respectively, each of Nashville’s last four MLS matches has seen one or both teams fail to score in contests garnering under 2.5 FT goals (W2, D2). However, it’s worth noting that this only their second away game this term, following a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake in mid-May. All of Nashville’s four MLS goals conceded this season have come in the first half of play, with three of them arriving within the opening 13 minutes.

Chicago Fire vs Montreal 30 05 21

Soldier Field is the venue, as Chicago Fire and Club de Foot Montreal meet face-to-face in an exciting MLS showdown.

Chicago eked out a narrow 1-0 home triumph against Inter Miami last time out to bring a four-game losing streak in MLS to a halt and claim their first victory of the season. However, that success came as further confirmation of Chicago’s growing problems in the front third, as they’ve now netted under 1.5 goals in all five MLS fixtures since a 2-2 draw with New England Revolution on Matchday 1. An encounter with Montreal might help Raphael Wicky’s men to overcome their scoring woes, considering they’ve bagged 2+ goals in both of their previous top-flight meetings (W1, D1). Interestingly, each of Chicago’s three home MLS matches this season has seen one of the halves ended without a goal, with the last two producing a goalless half-time scoreline.

Meanwhile, since a goalless home stalemate with Columbus Crew at the beginning of May, the visitors haven’t drawn any of their subsequent four MLS games (W1, L3), three of which saw the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. An indifferent form during their opening four away MLS fixtures (W1, D1, L2) is not something Montreal will be looking to dwell on ahead of their trip to a Chicago side they haven’t defeated in any of their last three away H2Hs (D1, L2). Curiously, Wilfried Nancy’s men have scored precisely two goals per game in two of their four away league matches this season, drawing a blank in the other two. Each of Montreal’s four strikes on the road arrived in the first half, with three of them coming by the 25th minute.

Guam vs China PR

China PR’s World Cup Qualifying series continues this weekend as they head to the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre to take on minnows Guam, seeking all three points.

It’s been a humiliating World Cup Qualifying campaign for Guam so far, as they’ve lost all five qualifiers by an aggregate score of 19-2 and are rooted to the foot of Group A. In addition to a 7-0 thumping to China in the reverse fixture, Suh Dong Won’s men have lost each of their last four qualifying matches by at least a two-goal margin, conceding 3+ goals on each occasion. Guam’s overall record in the World Cup qualifiers reads W2, D1, L7, with seven goals scored and 51 conceded. It comes as no surprise they head into this meeting as massive underdogs, even though they’ve won twice in their last four home games across all competitions (L2). Guam’s latest home matches have been brimming with action, with four of their last six such contests featuring 4+ FT goals.

Meanwhile, China enjoyed a flying start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign, securing back-to-back victories against Maldivi and Guam by an aggregate score of 12-0. However, the visitors have failed to keep momentum, failing to win both of their previous matches in Group A against Filippini and Syria, respectively (D1, L1). Despite sitting a staggering nine points adrift of section-leaders Syria, Li Tie’s men can still reach the next qualifying stage as one of four best-ranked second-place nations in the Asian qualifying series. China’s 2-0 away triumph against Hong Kong last time out ended a run of three consecutive defeats. Before that win, they had scored just once in their previous three road fixtures (D1, L2). It is, however, worth noting that this is China’s first international game since December 2019.

Inter Miami vs D.C. United

The two sides that have had identical returns from their last three MLS fixtures (W1, L2) will lock horns at the DRV PNK Stadium as Inter Miami meet D.C. United.

Ahead of the kick-off, none of Inter Miami’s last three MLS games have ended as a draw (W1, L2) since a 1-1 stalemate with Atlanta United at this venue back in early May. Inter’s league matches at this opening stage of the season have been notably tight as six of seven have seen the sides separated by a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals. Phil Neville’s men are still waiting for their first home win in the MLS this season, as they’ve lost twice in their opening three league outings at the DRV PNK Stadium, drawing the other one. Plenty of early action has highlighted Inter’s home matches this term, with two of their three such contests seeing the opener scored by the 14th minute.

Meanwhile, since beating Chicago Fire 1-0 at home in mid-May, injury-plagued Washington have lost their subsequent two league matches by the identical scoreline, with the deciding goal in each game coming in the first half of play. An utterly underwhelming start to the season for D.C. has seen them lose five of their opening seven MLS fixtures (W2) as they remain one of only two teams in the Eastern Conference yet to draw a league match. Additionally, slow-starting United have conceded the opening goal in a league-high six games so far, ending up on the losing side on five occasions (W1). Having that said, Hernan Losada’s men have netted the vast majority (80%) of their MLS goals this season in the first half of play (4/5).

Jeju United vs Ulsan Hyundai

Jeju United and Ulsan Hyundai are set to face-off at the Jeju World Cup Stadium in a battle of the sides that have experienced contrasting fortunes this K League 1 season.

After racking up three straight league victories in mid-April, the hosts have suffered a massive dip in form as they enter this round winless in their last seven K League 1 matches (D4, L3). A 2-2 draw with Seongnam in Jeju’s most recent home outing saw them bring a two-game losing home streak to a halt, though it also marked a seventh consecutive home K League 1 fixture in which they failed to keep a clean sheet. Indeed, Jeju’s defensive woes have seen them concede 2+ goals in each of their last three home league games, with five of the seven goals they let in during that period coming before half-time. Another disturbing matchday is on the horizon, given that the ‘Jeju Mountaineers’ have shipped 3+ goals in both of their previous top-flight meetings with Ulsan at home (L2).

As for Ulsan, they have hit a purple patch since going down 3-0 at Suwon in mid-April, putting together seven straight league matches without a defeat (W3, D4). The visitors have gone from back-to-back K League 1 draws to two wins on the spin, both of which saw the deciding goal come beyond the 55th minute. Before claiming an overwhelming 4-2 victory against Jeonbuk Motors in their most recent league trip, Ulsan had gone winless in their previous three K League 1 fixtures on the road (D2, L1), drawing a blank twice. Delivering action from the get-go, the ‘Tigers’ have netted a league joint-high six first-half goals away from home this season.

Los Angeles FC vs New York City

One of the most highly anticipated fixtures on the MLS football schedule takes place at the Banc of California Stadium as Los Angeles FC tackle New York City.

Los Angeles secured a tight 2-1 home victory over Colorado Rapids last time out to put an end to a frustrating four-game winless league run (D2, L2). However, since a 2-0 home win against Austin FC in their MLS curtain-raiser, the ‘Black and Gold’ have gone five consecutive league matches without a clean sheet, conceding over 1.5 goals twice in the process. Particularly vulnerable after half-time, Bob Bradley’s men have recorded six of their seven league goals conceded so far in the second half of play. Having that said, they’ve yet to let in a goal beyond the 75th minute of the MLS home action played to date. Keeping a blank sheet here could be a daunting prospect for Los Angeles, considering both of their only previous MLS meetings with New York City have yielded the same 2-2 scoreline.

Meanwhile, the visitors go into this encounter winless in their last three MLS matches (D2, L1) despite scoring the opening goal twice in that period. The ‘Pigeons’ were ruthless prior to this run, racking up back-to-back wins by an aggregate score of 7-0, with five of their seven strikes across those victories coming beyond the 50th minute. Away from home, Ronny Deila’s men have endured mixed fortunes across their opening three MLS fixtures (W1, D1, L1), scoring first on two occasions. In fact, except for a 1-1 draw with Orlando City in their most recent MLS trip, New York have opened the scoring in each of their remaining five league matches, which has been the case in their only previous visit to Los Angeles FC.

Manchester City vs Chelsea

The most highly anticipated fixture on the European football schedule will be staged at the Estádio do Dragão as Manchester City take on Chelsea in an all-English UEFA Champions League final.

Except for a 4-3 home triumph over Tottenham in the return leg of their 2018/19 Champions League quarter-final tie, Manchester City have lost all of their other five European encounters with domestic rivals. Indeed, they have lost both of their only previous European meetings with Chelsea by the identical 1-0 scoreline. Despite their continental struggle against Premier League clubs, the ‘Citizens’ have been ruthless in the Champions League this season, claiming 11 triumphs to become the first English side to reach such a milestone in a single season in the competition. Pep Guardiola’s men have been virtually unstoppable in front of goal in Europe over the past couple of seasons, netting a staggering 60 goals in their last 25 Champions League outings at an average of 2.4 per match. After putting together 790 minutes without conceding in the Champions League, the newly-crowned Premier League champions have failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four games in the competition.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have lost only 21.05% of their European meetings with Premier League clubs (GP19 – W7, D8, L4), although they’ve secured just one victory in their last five such encounters (D2, L2). A 2-0 home win against Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie marked Chelsea’s 13th clean sheet in 17 games. However, Thomas Tuchel’s men have failed to register a shutout in any of their subsequent five matches in all competitions since then. Since overcoming Madrid in the semi-finals, the ‘Blues’ have lost three times in their last five competitive fixtures (W2), albeit one of those wins came at the expense of Man City. After failing to win any of his first five managerial contests against Guardiola (D2, L3), Tuchel has outplayed his City counterpart in both encounters since taking charge of Chelsea in January, prevailing by a single-goal margin on each occasion.

Mexico vs Iceland

Mexico and Iceland go head-to-head at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, in an international friendly challenge.

Mexico haven’t drawn any of their last four matches (W3, L1) since being held to a 2-2 draw to Algeria in an international friendly in October 2020, with three of the four games (won/lost) in that period featuring a narrow one-goal margin. Topically, none of their last six meetings with European nations have ended level (W3, L3), with each of those matches seeing the victor keep a clean sheet and four yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. Additionally, each of their four internationals against Iceland in the 21st century has seen one or both sides fail to score (W2, D2), with three of those encounters producing under 1.5 FT goals. The first-half action has been at a premium in Mexico’s recent internationals as two of the last three have seen a goalless half-time score.

Meanwhile, Iceland’s 4-1 away thumping of Liechtenstein in their most recent outing rounded off a run of seven consecutive defeats, four of which saw them fail to get on the scoresheet. Before the abovementioned with at Liechtenstein, Iceland had suffered six straight losses on foreign soil by an aggregate score of 18-3. Lapses of concentration after the half-time break have seen six of Iceland’s last eight goals conceded away from home come in the second half of play. Even though they’ve struggled for form in the past nine months, Arnar Viðarsson’s men have been fun to watch, as nine of their last ten matches have featured 3+ FT goals, friendlies included.

New York Red Bulls vs Orlando City

New York Red Bulls and Orlando City will trade tackles at the Red Bull Arena as the home side hope to end a two-game winless run in their MLS H2H meetings (D1, L1).

New York Red Bulls come into this meeting as one of just two sides in the Eastern Conference yet to draw a league match this season (W2, L4). The hosts have performed in patches in the early stage of the campaign, with a pair of victories sandwiched by back-to-back defeats. While both of their wins yielded the same 2-0 scoreline, two of their four losses so far saw the Red Bull outfit squander a lead. Far more lethal after half-time, Gerhard Struber’s men have registered a clear majority (80%) of their home MLS goals scored this term in the second half of play (4/5). After winning four consecutive home league encounters with Orlando, the ‘Metro’ have failed to win the last two (D1, L1), scoring under 1.5 goals on each occasion.

In the meantime, the visitors have enjoyed a stellar start to the season so far as they go into proceedings as one of only two franchises yet to lose a league fixture (W3, D3). Manager Oscar Pareja has based Orlando’s impressive start on a rock-solid backline that has conceded just two MLS goals so far, less than any other in the Eastern Conference. However, the ‘Lions’ have failed to live up to expectations at the other end of the pitch, having netted under 1.5 goals in all but one of their six MLS fixtures this term. Coming into this game, Orlando have posted back-to-back league wins, with each of them coming by the same 1-0 scoreline and seeing the only goal scored by the 12th minute.

Sweden vs Finland

Friends Arena is the venue as Sweden and Finland meet in a warm-up fixture as part of their preparations for the upcoming Euro finals.

Sweden were nothing short of outstanding during the last international break, having won each of their three internationals by an aggregate scoreline of 5-0. None of Sweden’s last 15 outings have ended level since a 1-1 home draw with Spain in the UEFA Nations League back in October 2019 (W9, L6). The clean sheet was a common theme during that 15-game sequence, with 11 matches (won/lost) seeing the winner on the day record a shutout. Topically, none of the last seven meetings between Sweden and Finland have ended as a draw (W5, L2), with six of them seeing the victor keep a clean sheet, including the last four in a row. Entertainment has been relatively sparse in Sweden’s recent home games as six of the last seven have featured under 2.5 FT goals.

On the other hand, the visitors have experienced a dip in form ahead of this encounter, going from four consecutive wins to four straight matches without winning (D2, L2). Yet, Finland were a pretty exciting team to watch during the last international break as each of their three fixtures back in March saw both teams scoring, with two of them producing 4+ total goals. Action-packed second-half football is also on the cards, considering each of Finland’s last four matches has featured 2+ goals after half-time. By contrast, each of their previous seven trips to Sweden has seen one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet. Five of those seven encounters contained under 1.5 FT goals, with Markku Kanerva’s team running out 1-0 winners in each of the last two.

Switzerland vs United States

Switzerland will play host to the United States at the Kybunpark, St. Gallen, in their first warm-up fixture ahead of the rescheduled Euro 2020.

Switzerland have notably improved their game over the past eight months, going from seven consecutive matches without winning (D3, L4) to four victories in a row. Vladimir Petkovic’s men have displayed tremendous character to prevail in some keenly-contested affairs of late, with each of their last two triumphs yielding a winning margin of a single goal. Since losing 1-0 to Spain in the UEFA Nations League back in October 2020, the ‘Nati’ have found the net in each of their subsequent six outings, excluding a 3-0 awarded win over Ukraine last November. Switzerland will be looking to build on their recent upturn in form when they meet the United States side they have failed to win against in any of their previous three encounters (D2, L1).

Meanwhile, the visitors go into this meeting in the midst of a purple patch, having racked up a nine-match unbeaten streak (W8, D1) since a 2-0 away loss to Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League in October 2019. Free-scoring USA netted 4+ goals six times across that nine-game sequence, averaging 3.77 goals per match. By contrast, the ‘Stars and Stripes’ had drawn a blank in three consecutive meetings with European nations (D1, L2) before a 2-1 win against Northern Ireland last time out. Going back to November 2018, five of the United States’ six matches on foreign soil have seen one or both sides fail to score (W2, D1, L3). Quick out of the blocks, Gregg Berhalter’s men have found the net before half-time at least once in each of their last five games.

Incheon United vs Jeonbuk Motors

Out-of-sorts Jeonbuk Motors head to the Sungui Arena Park to meet an improving Ulsan United side in a must-win K League 1 fixture.

After succumbing to back-to-back league defeats in early April, Incheon have now lost just once in their last seven K League 1 outings (W3, D3), crawling back to within three points from safety in the process. Having scored precisely twice in each of their last two league games, Incheon could net 2+ goals in three consecutive league fixtures for the first time this season. Unfortunately, they go up against a side they have drawn a blank against five times across their last six top-flight meetings. But if the ‘Mariners’ find the net here, it’s likely to be in the second half, considering 70% of their home K League 1 goals scored this term arrived in after half-time (7/10). Late action is also on the cards as 55.56% of Incheon’s home league matches featured a goal beyond the 75th minute.

On the other hand, Jeonbuk go into this round on the back of three successive league defeats that saw them concede an average of 2.66 goals per game. Before those losses, the reigning champions played out three draws in a row, with their last top-flight victory dating back to mid-April. However, the ‘Warriors’ remain firmly in the title race as they take the field trailing top-placed Ulsan by four points with a game in hand. Worryingly, though, Kim Sang-Sik’s men have failed to score twice in their last three away league fixtures, which has already been the case once in their previous two K League 1 trips to Incheon. Even if they concede first, Jeonbuk should have enough character to bounce back, knowing they’ve avoided defeat in 50% of the league matches in which they fell behind this term (GP6 – W1, D2, L3).

Japan vs Myanmar

National Olympic Stadium is the venue as Japan and minnows Myanmar go head-to-head in the FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group C.

Paired together with the likes of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and Mongolia in Group C, Japan are odds-on favorites to finish top of the section, and they’ve already hit the ground running. Ahead of the kick-off, the ‘Samurai Blue’ have won their opening five World Cup Qualifying fixtures by an aggregate score of 27-0, including a 2-0 win against Myanmar in their Group C curtain-raiser. Coming into this matchday, Japan brushed aside Mongolia with an overwhelming 14-0 victory away from home, meaning each of their last eight matches has seen one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet, friendlies included (W5, D1, L2). It is worth noting, though, that Japan’s last competitive home game dates back to October 2019, when they hammered Mongolia 6-0.

On the other hand, the visitors have bounced back from a dreadful start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign, going from three consecutive defeats to back-to-back victories. The clean sheet has been a common theme in Myanmar’s opening five qualifying matches as four of five have seen the winner on the day register a shutout. Since being held to a 2-2 stalemate to India in the Asian Cup qualifier back in November 2017, the ‘Asian Lions’ haven’t drawn any of their subsequent games away from home, including friendlies (W2, L7), with two-thirds of those results (win/loss) yielding a winning/losing margin of 2+ goals. In fact, Myanmar have drawn just two of their 19 World Cup qualifiers (W5, L12), conceding an average of 2.68 goals across those fixtures.

Italy vs San Marino

Italy’s preparations for the upcoming Euro 2020 begin at the Sardegna Arena as they welcome Apenninean minnows San Marino in an international friendly.

Italy take on a side they’ve defeated in both of their previous meetings by an aggregate score of 12-0. The Italians head into proceedings in the midst of a purple patch, having gone undefeated in a staggering 25 matches in a row since suffering a 1-0 away loss to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League back in October 2018 (W20, D5). Furthermore, since playing out back-to-back draws with the Netherlands and Poland in the UEFA Nations League back in October 2020, ‘Gli Azzurri’ have reeled off a series of outstanding performances to rack up a six-game unbeaten run, friendlies included. Prolific in the front third and equally impressive at the back, Roberto Mancini’s side returned a resounding +14 goal difference from that six-match sequence (GF:14, GA:0), with five of those triumphs yielding the identical 2-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, San Marino are the world’s worst-ranked nation and for a good reason. Since succumbing to a 3-1 home defeat to Kazakhstan in November 2019, ‘La Serenissima’ have failed to find the net in each of their subsequent ten outings, losing 70% of those matches by at least a two-goal margin. Away from home, Franco Varrella’s men last scored in a 5-1 thumping to Azerbaijan in October 2017, going 13 road games without scoring since then. Alarmingly, San Marino conceded at least four goals in nine of those 13 fixtures. Overall in that sequence, they let in an average of 4.46 goals per match, keeping a clean sheet in a scoreless draw at Liechtenstein back in October 2020.

Western United vs Melbourne Victory

The two out-of-form A-League sides go head-to-head at the GMHBA Stadium as Western United take on Melbourne Victory.

Western United head into proceedings in the midst of a rough patch, having lost each of their last five A-League matches by an aggregate score of 14-1. Following a 2-0 home victory over Newcastle Jets in late April, the hosts have drawn a blank in five of their subsequent six league outings, including the last four in a row. If there’s any consolation for Western United, they go up against a side they have never lost to in the top flight across their five meetings so far (W4, D1), netting an intimidating average of 3.00 goals per win. A narrow 1-0 loss to Sydney in their most recent home league fixture ended Western’s run of five consecutive home games in A-League without a loss (W5, D1). They have also failed to find the net in a league second-highest 36% of their home league matches this term.

Meanwhile, the visitors are enduring a hard time of their own, failing to secure all three points in seven A-League matches on the bounce (D1, L6) since claiming a thrilling 5-4 home win against WS Wanderers in late April. Melbourne Victory’s defensive woes have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 16 league outings. Furthermore, Melbourne’s tally of 58 goals conceded is the worst in A-League this season by some distance, with the ‘Boys in Blue’ letting in at least 17 goals more than any other side in the division. Away from home, Steve Kean’s men have lost their last five A-League fixtures by an aggregate scoreline of 15-2, conceding in both halves on three of those occasions.

Turkey vs Azerbaijan

Turkey’s preparations for the upcoming Euro finals begin at the Bahçeşehir Okulları Stadium as they meet Azerbaijan in an international friendly.

The hosts have been in fine form since the turn of 2020, having suffered just two defeats in 11 games, friendlies included (W3, D6). Since succumbing to a 2-0 away defeat to Hungary in the UEFA Nations League, the ‘Crescent-Stars’ have reeled off a series of impressive performances, netting 3+ goals in each of their subsequent three matches in all competitions (W2, D1). Delivering action from the get-go, Turkey netted precisely two first-half goals each time during that three-game sequence. Additionally, the Turks have bagged 2+ goals in each of their last five home fixtures, including friendlies. Having that said, Senol Gunes’ men have scored under 1.5 goals in three of their last four meetings with Azerbaijan (W2, D1, L1), with each of their four strikes across those encounters coming in the second half of play.

Meanwhile, the visitors have gone from four consecutive goalless draws to three defeats in a row, all of which came by a single-goal margin, with the last two producing the same 2-1 scoreline. Away from home, Gianni De Biasi’s players have struggled in front of goal lately, having drawn a blank in six of their last eight road trips while scoring precisely once in each of the remaining two. Before being defeated 2-1 by Qatar in their most recent game on the road, each of Azerbaijan’s previous seven fixtures held on foreign soil had seen one or both sides fail to find the net in matches garnering under 2.5 FT goals. Adding to this sentiment, they have lost each of their three previous trips to Turkey without scoring, though it’s worth noting that this is their first such contest since October 2011.

Gamba Osaka vs TokushimaVortis

Out-of-sorts Gamba Osaka will trade tackles with an improving Tokushima Vortis side at the Suita City Football Stadium in a must-win J1 League showdown.

Gamba have endured a massive dip in form since pulling off a narrow 1-0 away win over Sagan Tosu in mid-April, going winless in their subsequent seven J1 League matches (D2, L5). The ‘low-scoring’ theme has highlighted Gamba’s recent league fixtures as ten of their last 12 in the competition have featured under 2.5 FT goals. Alarmingly, the ‘Black-and-Blues’ have failed to get on the scoresheet in four of their five home J1 League games so far and remain the only side yet to win at home this season (D2, L3). Home and away, Gamba have netted just three goals and are the only team in the Japanese top-flight yet to hit double digits. Encouragingly, though, they now face a side they have never lost to in a competitive match (W5, D1).

In the meantime, Tokushima have eked out just one win in their last eight games in all competitions (D3, L4), courtesy of a 1-0 away league victory at Hiroshima mid-May. For the visitors, goals have been at a premium lately, as they’ve scored one or less in each of their last ten outings in various competitions. Since being held to a 1-1 draw to Oita in their first road trip of the season, ‘Vortis’ haven’t drawn any of their last eight away J1 League fixtures (W3, L5), with six of those eight results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. Early action is well on the cards, given that 44.44% of Tokushima’s away J1 League matches this season have seen a goal inside the opening 15 minutes of play (4/9).

Villarreal vs Manchester United

The 2020/21 UEFA Europa League final pits La Liga powerhouse Villarreal against 2016/17 champions Manchester United at the Gdansk Stadium in Poland.

It has been an outstanding Europa League campaign for Villarreal so far as they’ve avoided defeat in all 14 games in the competition (W12, D2) en route to reaching their first major European final. Unai Emery’s men are undefeated in their last 12 Europa League matches outside Spain (W7, D5), registering a shutout in each of the last five. Remarkably, the Spanish giants have racked up a resounding 23-match unbeaten run against non-Spanish adversaries in major European competitions (W16, D7) Villarreal’s European record against Premier League clubs is perfectly balanced (W5, D7, L5), albeit ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ have never faced English opponents on neutral ground. Villlarreal boss Emery could become the first head coach in the Europa League history to win the competition four times. Standing in the Spaniard’s way is United, a side Villarreal have played out four goalless draws against in as many European meetings so far.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have suffered just a single loss in the Europa League knock-out stage this season (W5, D2), courtesy of a 3-2 defeat to Roma in the return leg of their semi-final tie. Given United’s footballing stature, it may come as some surprise that they’ve managed only 16 wins in 61 European fixtures against La Liga clubs (D23, L22). However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have already crashed out two Spanish sides in the Europa League knock-outs, putting eight unanswered goals past Real Sociedad and Granada in the last-32 and quarter-finals, respectively. Notably, the ‘Red Devils’ have found the back of the net in 16 consecutive knock-out matches away from Old Trafford in the competition. Worryingly, the Premier League giants have lost each of their last three European finals against Spanish teams.

Oita Trinita vs Yokohama Marinos

Oita Trinita and Yokohama Marinos will exchange tackles at the Showa Denko Dome in an intriguing J1 League encounter this midweek.

Oita’s form wobble continued with a 2-1 away defeat to Vegalta Sendai last time out, meaning the hosts head into proceedings having won just once in 13 matches in all competitions (D4, L8). Since beating Shimizu 1-0 at home earlier this month, Tomohiro Katanosaka’s men have gone winless in five consecutive games in various competitions (D3, L2), with each draw yielding the same 1-1 scoreline. Marinos’ visit to the Showa Denko Dome might help Oita to return to winning ways as they’ve defeated this opposition ‘to nil’ in both of their previous top-flight H2Hs as hosts. Low scoring has been a common theme in Oita’s recent competitive home matches. All of the last five have featured under 2.5 goals, including back-to-back 1-1 draws with Tokushima and Sagan Tosu.

Meanwhile, since succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Kawasaki Frontale in their J1 League curtain-raiser, the visitors have lost just once in their subsequent 13 league matches (W8, D4). However, Yokohama’s slight dip in form has seen them go from four consecutive league victories to back-to-back games without winning (D1, L1), both of which saw each side get on the scoresheet in the second half. Before suffering a horrendous 5-3 loss to Kashima Antlers in their most recent J1 League trip, the ‘Marinos’ had avoided defeat in seven straight away fixtures in all competitions (W4, D3), netting 3+ goals on four occasions in the process. Against this free-scoring backdrop, Ange Postecoglou’s men have failed to find the net in regulation time in any of their last three competitive visits to Oita.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima vs Urawa Reds

Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Urawa Reds are set to face-off at the Edion Stadium Hiroshima in an upper-half-of-the-table J1 League clash.

The hosts have endured mixed fortunes in their last five J1 League matches (W2, D1, L2), with three of the four results (win/loss) in this sequence yielding a narrow one-goal margin. Another close contest is well on the cards, considering each of the last three top-flight meetings between these sides has seen the teams separated at full-time by under 1.5 goals. A lack of firepower up front has seen Hiroshima draw a blank in four of their last six home games in all competitions, scoring precisely once in each of the other two. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that they have lost each of their last three home J1 League fixtures. Hiroshima will be desperate to break their Urawa hoodoo that has seen them fail to win any of their last four top-flight H2Hs as hosts (D2, L2).

Meanwhile, the visitors have hit the ground running in J1 League since succumbing to a dismal 2-0 away loss to Avispa Fukuoka, putting together three straight league triumphs. Notably, each victory in that three-game stretch saw Urawa score 2+ goals and keep a clean sheet. As ever, starting well will be of the essence, especially considering Urawa’s 100% win ratio across J1 League games in which they were leading at half-time this season (W3). However, the traveling side’s tendency to zone out after the break has seen them score just one second-half goal in six away league matches this season. Interestingly, the ‘Reds’ are one of only two teams yet to draw a league fixture away from home this term (W2, L4).

The post Sanfrecce Hiroshima vs Urawa Reds appeared first on Bet888win.

Yokohama FC vs Avispa Fukuoka

Dead-last Yokohama FC will entertain high-flying Avispa Fukuoka at the Mitsuzawa Stadium for their first-ever J1 League meeting.

It’s been a dreadful start to the season for Yokohama so far, as they come into Matchday 16 rooted to the foot of the table with a single win from their opening 15 J1 League fixtures (D3, L11). Yokohama’s defensive woes have seen them concede a league-high 39 goals so far, 38.46% of which arrived at home, though. Tomonobu Hayakawa’s men have failed to impress at the other end of the pitch, too, having scored a league third-low 11 goals thus far. Only three teams have netted fewer second-half goals at home than the ‘Folie’ (3), with Yokohama yet to score inside the final 15 minutes of home J1 League action played this term. The hosts have conceded at least once in that same timeframe in 57.14% of their home league outings.

In the meantime, the visitors have enjoyed a massive upturn in form ahead of this trip, going from five consecutive league matches without winning (D3, L2) to six victories in a row. Fukuoka’s ability to prevail in close, keenly-contested games has seen 87.55% of their J1 League triumphs this season come by a single-goal margin. Topically, their away league fixtures have been notably tight, as seven of their eight J1 League road trips have yielded a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals. If they manage to score here, Fukuoka seem likely to do it after the half-time break, with eight of their ten league goals scored on the road this season arriving in the second half of play. The ‘Hachi’ have found the net in four of their last five competitive trips to Yokohama, scoring 2+ goals on three occasions.

Shimizu S-Pulse vs Tokyo FC

IAI Stadium Nihondaira is the venue, as Shimizu S-Pulse and Tokyo FC square off in a bottom-half-of-the-table J1 League showdown.

Shimizu are desperate to find their feet against a side they have lost to in each of their last four J1 League meetings as they take the field winless in nine league matches on the trot (D4, L5). Ahead of the kick-off, Shimizu have suffered back-to-back league defeats, both of which came by over 1.5 goals ‘to nil.’ Furthermore, the hosts are one of just two sides in the J1 League yet to taste victory on home soil this season (D4, L3). Much of the blame for S-Pulse’s disastrous home form has to be pinned on a clueless attack that has netted an average of just 0.57 goals per home J1 League outing. In fact, only Gamba Osaka (1) have scored fewer home league goals than Shimizu (4) so far.

On the other hand, the visitors have gone from five consecutive league defeats to back-to-back triumphs, both of which saw them keep a clean sheet. Tokyo’s 4-0 thumping of Kashiwa Reysol in their most recent away league outing ended a run of five consecutive J1 League trips without winning (D3, L2). Additionally, prior to that victory over Kashiwa, Tokyo had failed to get on the scoresheet in four of their previous six away fixtures in all competitions. Indeed, entertainment has been sparse in their away J1 League games this season, as four of their six league trips have contained under 2.5 FT goals. Kenta Hasegawa’s men had registered three away shutouts against Shimizu in a row before a 3-1 victory in this exact fixture last season.

The post Shimizu S-Pulse vs Tokyo FC appeared first on Bet888win.

Kashima Antlers vs Cerezo Osaka

Kashima Soccer Stadium is the venue. as Kashima Antlers and Cerezo Osaka meet in an upper-half-of-the-table J1 League showdown.

Kashima spurned a half-time lead to suffer a 2-1 away loss to Sagan Tosu in their most recent J1 League outing, which saw their eight-match unbeaten league streak come to an end (W6, D2). Before losing to Tosu, Kashima had netted an intimidating average of 3.25 goals per game in their previous four league matches, winning each of them by a margin of 2+ goals. Since a heartbreaking 1-0 home loss to Nagoya Grampus in late March, Naoki Soma’s men have racked up a four-game unbeaten run in home J1 League fixtures (W3, D1), averaging 2.75 goals in that sequence. Kashima’s home action usually sparks into life after half-time, as evidenced by the fact that 75% of their league goals scored at Kashima Soccer Stadium this season have come in the second half of play (12/16).

On the other hand, the visitors have alternated between drawing (2) and losing (2) across their last four J1 League outings since beating Urawa Reds 1-0 at home in mid-April. Low scoring has been a common theme in Cerezo’s recent league fixtures, as four of their last five J1 League trips have produced under 2.5 FT goals. Before a 1-1 draw with Vissel Kobe in their most recent away league match, Levir Culpi’s side had drawn a blank in three consecutive top-flight trips (D1, L2). Indeed, the ‘Cherry Blossoms’ have struggled to impress on the road this season, having claimed just one triumph in seven away league games so far (D2, L4), compared to five wins from nine home matches (D2, L2). They now face another formidable challenge in the shape of a Kashima side they have failed to win against in their last three league H2Hs here (D1, L2).

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix

Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to post their third consecutive A-League victory over Wellington Phoenix when the two sides meet at the Bankwest Stadium this midweek.

A narrow 1-0 away defeat to Sydney FC last time out means none of Western Sydney Wanderers’ last six A-League fixtures have ended level (W2, L4) following a run of three consecutive league draws. Worryingly, since beating Perth Glory 3-0 at home in mid-March, the ‘Wanderers’ have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their subsequent ten A-League matches, conceding an average of 2.55 goals across such contests. Despite dealing with massive defensive problems, Carl Robinson’s men have registered only 41.03% of their total league goals conceded this term on home soil. Unfortunately for the hosts, they now go up against a side they have shipped precisely three goals against twice in their last three top-flight H2Hs held at this venue.

Meanwhile, the visitors have gone from back-to-back A-League defeats to eight consecutive league matches without losing (W4, L4), five of which saw them score 2+ goals, including the last two. Another bright spot has been Wellington’s ability to shut out their opposition, as witnessed by the fact they have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four league outings. Away from home, the ‘Nix’ are undefeated in five straight league matches, though they’ve drawn the last four in a row since beating Perth Glory 3-1 in mid-April. The first-half action has been relatively sparse in Wellington’s away league games this season as only three of their 11 A-League trips have featured over 1.5 goals before half-time.

The post Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix appeared first on Bet888win.

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City

Dolphin Stadium is the venue, as Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City go head-to-head in the penultimate round of the regular A-League season.

Brisbane eked out a tight 2-1 away win victory over Newcastle Jets last time out to bring a three-game winless league run to a halt (D1, L2). Since succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Macarthur FC back in early February, Warren Moon’s men have gone unbeaten in their subsequent six A-League home games (W1, D5), with each draw in this sequence yielding under 2.5 total goals. Low scoring might not necessarily be a theme here, considering two of the last three top-flight meetings between these two sides here have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams scoring. The ‘Roar’ boast an almost perfect win record in the league matches that saw them score first this season (GP7 – W6, D1), with the solitary draw courtesy of a 1-1 stalemate with Sydney in early March.

On the other hand, since suffering a 2-1 away defeat to Western Sydney in early April, Melbourne City have gone into overdrive, racking up an impressive ten-match unbeaten league streak (W7, D3) to qualify for the play-offs with two games to spare. A 1-0 home victory over Central Coast Mariners last time out marked Melbourne’s first clean sheet in seven A-League fixtures. However, Patrick Kisnorbo’s men have failed to register a shutout in any of their last five away league games, with five of their seven goals conceded in this period coming in the second half of play. Notably, City’s strong first-half performances have seen them trail at half-time in league-low three A-League outings this season. But a lack of ability to bounce back has witnessed them fail to win any such contest (D1, L2).

Shonan Bellmare vs Kawasaki Frontale

Shonan Bellmare and Kawasaki Frontale will lock horns at the Lemon Gas Stadium in what should be a routine task for the defending J1 League champions.

Shonan have experienced a dip in form since beating Oita 2-0 at home earlier this month as they go into this meeting winless in their last three J1 League matches (D1, L2). It will be a daunting prospect for Shonan to bounce back here, considering they go up against a side they have failed to defeat in any of their last eight top-flight encounters (D3, L5), losing the last four in a row by an aggregate score of 11-1. What’s more, since succumbing to a 3-2 loss in this exact fixture back in the 2016/17 season, Bellmare have failed to get on the scoresheet in their subsequent three J1 League H2Hs as hosts. Before the abovementioned win against Oita, Shonan had played out four goalless home league draws on the bounce.

On the other hand, the reigning Japanese champions have enjoyed a flying start to the season as they enter this round as the only side in the J1 League yet to taste defeat this term (W15, D3). Kawasaki are the most prolific team in the league by some distance, having netted 46 goals so far, at least 17 more than any other side. Since being held to a 1-1 draw to Vissel Kobe on Matchday 5, Toru Oniki’s players have won their subsequent four away J1 League games by an aggregate score of 15-2. They scored in both halves on each occasion during that four-game sequence. Indeed, when Kawasaki win, it tends to be in emphatic fashion, as witnessed by the fact that 73.33% of their top-flight victories this season yielded a winning margin of 2+ goals.

Consadole Sapporo vs Sagan Tosu

Consadole Sapporo and Sagan Tosu go head-to-head at Sapporo Dome as the traveling side look to post their first J1 League win against their hosts since May 2017.

Since being held to a goalless stalemate to Shonan Bellmare on Matchday 12, Sapporo have alternated between winning (2) and losing (1) in their subsequent three J1 League matches. Slow-starting Sapporo have drawn a blank in the first half in each of their last six J1 League outings, albeit they’ve netted precisely two second-half goals on three occasions in that period. At Sapporo Dome, Mihailo Petrovic’s men have gone undefeated in five games across all competitions (W3, D2) since losing 3-1 to Yokohama Marinos in mid-April. Tosu’s visit seems like a prime opportunity for the ‘Consa’ to keep their impressive home form going, as they’ve not lost any of their last five competitive H2Hs as hosts (W4, D1), having suffered three losses in a row beforehand.

Meanwhile, Tosu claimed a tight 2-1 home victory over Kashima Antlers last time out to put the brakes on a four-match winless streak in all competitions (D2, L2). In J1 League alone, the visitors are unbeaten in their last six games (W4, D2) since succumbing to a 1-0 home defeat to Gamba Osaka in mid-April. Ahead of the kick-off, Sagan remain the only side in the Japanese top-tier competition yet to concede double digits this season (7). However, it is worth noting that the majority (71.43%) of Tosu’s J1 League goals shipped this term arrived away from home. Action-packed football is well on the cards, considering four of Tosu’s last five road fixtures in all competitions have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.

The post Consadole Sapporo vs Sagan Tosu appeared first on Bet888win.

Nagoya Grampus vs Vegalta Sendai

Nagoya Grampus will be looking to post back-to-back home J1 League triumphs over Vegalta Sendai for the first time since 2010 when the two sides meet at the Toyota Stadium this midweek.

A goalless away draw with Tokushima in their most recent league outing marked Nagoya’s first J1 League stalemate in ten matches (W5, L4), with each of the last four seeing one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet. In fact, only three (16.67%) of Nagoya’s 18 J1 League games this season have seen both teams score, with just one such contest coming on home turf. Another similar scenario is well on the cards, given that each of their last three competitive home meetings with Sendai has seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet (W2, L1). Low scoring has been a common theme in Nagoya’s home J1 League fixtures this season, with 66.67% of them featuring under 2.5 FT goals (6/9).

Meanwhile, Sendai eked out a tight 2-1 victory against Oita last time out to bring a three-match winless league streak to a halt (D1, L2). However, an utterly disappointing start to the season has seen Vegalta pick only ten out of the available 45 points as they come into this round sitting two points adrift of safety. Away from home, the visitors remain one of just two sides yet to secure a single triumph this season (D3, L6), returning a frustrating -12 goal difference from their nine road trips so far (GF:8, GA:20). Frustratingly slow starters, Makoto Teguramori’s men have conceded first in 77.78% of their away J1 League matches this term, though they have avoided defeat in three of seven such fixtures (D3, L4).

The post Nagoya Grampus vs Vegalta Sendai appeared first on Bet888win.

Kashiwa Reysol vs Vissel Kobe

Kashiwa Reysol and Vissel Kobe are set to trade tackles at the Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium in an exciting J1 League fixture.

Kashiwa take the field in the midst of a rough patch, having failed to win any of their last seven matches in all competitions (D3, L4), six of which saw them score under 1.5 goals. Since picking up a 5-1 home victory against Tokushima in late April, the hosts have drawn a blank in three of their four subsequent J1 League outings. Of all the sides sitting outside the drop zone at the moment, only Shimizu S-Pulse (11) have netted fewer league goals than Kashiwa (13) so far this season. Encouragingly, though, a clear majority (69.23%) of Kashiwa’s J1 League strikes this term arrived at home (9/13). Worryingly, Nelsinho Baptista’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their six home league fixtures this season.

Meanwhile, the visitors are enduring a torrid time of their own as they head into proceedings having won just once in their last seven J1 League games (D4, L2). Additionally, a lack of firepower in the front third has seen Vissel fail to score in two of their last three league outings, with just one top-half-of-the-table team netting fewer goals than Kobe (19) thus far. Following back-to-back away stalemates, Atsuhiro Miura’s men have now lost twice in a row on the road, succumbing to consecutive 2-0 defeats to Yokohama Marinos and Urawa Reds, respectively. Furthermore, Kobe have lost each of their last eight top-flight trips to Kashiwa, conceding an alarming average of 2.25 goals per match in the process.

Real Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid’s seven-year title wait might come to an end this weekend as they travel to the Estadio José Zorrilla to meet relegation-threatened Real Valladolid in the final fixture of the 2020/21 La Liga season.

Since a 2-1 home win over Getafe in early March, Valladolid have hit a rough patch, failing to win any of their last 11 La Liga matches since then (D6, L5). Following four consecutive league draws – three of which saw them concede first – ‘Los Pucelanos’ have now lost three La Liga games in a row by an aggregate scoreline of 9-1. As a consequence, Sergio Gonazlez’s men take the field sitting two points adrift of safety, with nothing but victory able to save them from being relegated to the second-tier. It doesn’t get more complicated than this as they go up against a side they have lost to in ten of their last 11 top-flight meetings (D1). Alarmingly, Valladolid drew a blank seven times during that 11-match sequence.

Meanwhile, a breathtaking late comeback saw Atletico Madrid beat Osasuna 2-1 at home last time out to maintain a two-point cushion at the summit heading into the season finale. However, ‘Los Colchoneros’ will have to defy their recent indifferent form away from home to get the title race over the finishing line, knowing they’ve managed just a single win in their last six league trips (D3, L2). A lack of ruthlessness in front of goal saw Diego Simeone’s side net under 1.5 goals each time during that six-game stretch. But the Argentine boasts an almost perfect managerial record against Osasuna in La Liga, having won eight of his nine such contests so far (D1). Additionally, ‘Los Rojiblancos’ have won all but one of their last five top-flight trips to Valladolid (D1), keeping a clean sheet four times in the process.

Real Madrid vs Villarreal

Real Madrid have managed to get the La Liga title race down to the wire as they welcome seventh-placed Villarreal to the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium in the ultimate showdown this weekend.

Coming into the final weekend of the season, Real Madrid have put together 17 straight La Liga matches without a loss (W12, D5), last tasting defeat in the competition at the hands of Levante in January. However, a lack of consistency has seen Madrid alternate between a victory (2) and a draw (2) across their last four home league games, netting precisely twice on three occasions in the process. Villarreal’s visit to the capital sounds like a prime opportunity for ‘Los Blancos’ to wrap up an all-important three points, considering they have suffered a single loss in their 20 home La Liga meetings with this opposition (W14, D5). Furthermore, Zinedine Zidane could become the first Madrid manager in the 21st century to win back-to-back La Liga titles. The Frenchman has lost just one of his nine top-flight matches against Villarreal as a coach (W4, D4).

On the other hand, the visitors have racked up back-to-back La Liga wins following a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Celta Vigo on Matchday 34 and are very much in contention for a Europa League finish. Sitting level on points with sixth-placed Betis and one adrift of fifth-placed Real Sociedad, Villarreal are on the lookout for all three points here. Away from home, ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ have claimed four victories in their last five La Liga games (L1), one more than they had in their previous 13 trips in the competition (W3, D7, L3). Villarreal have won only 38.89% of their away La Liga fixtures this season. But when they win, it tends to be in an emphatic fashion, as each of their seven such triumphs this season has yielded a winning margin of 2+ goals.

The post Real Madrid vs Villarreal appeared first on Bet888win.

Eibar vs Barcelona

Relegated Eibar entertain third-placed Barcelona at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua on the final matchday of the 2020/21 La Liga season.

Following back-to-back La Liga victories ‘to nil,’ Eibar have gone winless in two consecutive league matches (D1, L1), conceding the opener by the fourth minute on each occasion. The hosts have won just two of their ten home La Liga fixtures since the turn of 2021 (D3, L5), scoring under 1.5 goals in each game they didn’t win. Since securing promotion to La Liga in 2014/15, Eibar have suffered five defeats in six home league meetings with Barcelona (D1), frustratingly drawing a blank in each reverse. Eibar’s immense scoring difficulties have seen them net a miserly average of 0.66 goals per home La Liga match this season. Their tally of 12 home goals scored in a single top-flight campaign is the second-worst in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, Barcelona head into proceedings winless in three consecutive La Liga outings (D2, L1) since a 3-2 away win to Valencia in early May. In fact, Barca’s tally of seven defeats in 37 La Liga fixtures this season is their worst such total in a single top-flight campaign since 2007/08 (9 losses at the time). However, the Catalan juggernauts have come out victorious in 11 of their last 13 La Liga road trips (D1, L1), netting an intimidating average of 2.69 goals per game in this sequence. Additionally, Ronald Koeman’s men have scored a league-high 40 away goals this season, including another division-high 22 second-half strikes. There’s been plenty of post-half-time action in Barcelona’s recent La Liga trips, as each of the last two has featured 4+ second-half goals.

The post Eibar vs Barcelona appeared first on Bet888win.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United go head-to-head at Molineux Stadium in the final round of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Following back-to-back Premier League games without a defeat (W1, D1), Wolverhampton have lost their last two league matches without scoring. In fact, of all teams sitting outside the relegation territory, only Burnley (33) have netted fewer Premier League goals than Wolves (35) this season. Though a slight majority (57.14%) of their strikes arrived at Molineux, the ‘Wanderers’ remain a league second-worst home attack if counting the sides outside the drop zone. Excluding relegated clubs, no team has netted fewer first-half goals at home than Wolves (7) so far this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have won just one of their last seven Premier League meetings with Manchester United (D3, L3), courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Molineux in April 2019. Since the turn of 2020, they have drawn a blank in all four competitive fixtures against United (D2, L2).

In the meantime, the ‘Red Devils’ have gone winless in their last three Premier League matches (D1, L2) since a 3-1 away win against Aston Villa. However, Manchester United could become only the third different team to avoid defeat away from home across an entire English top-flight campaign, having won 11 of their 18 Premier League trips this season (D7). Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have displayed tremendous character this season to win more points from losing positions than any other side in the Premier League (31). Remarkably, the visitors have racked up nine victories in ten away league matches in which they conceded first in 2020/21 (D1). Based on that, it comes as no surprise that 69.7% of Man United’s away Premier League goals scored this season have come in the second half of play (23/33).

Olympique Lyonnais vs Nice

Olympique Lyonnais will be looking to complete their first Ligue 1 double over Nice for the first time since 2017/18 when the two sides meet at the Groupama Stadium in the ultimate round of the 2020/21 fixtures this weekend.

A 5-2 thumping of Nimes away from home last time out gave Lyon a fifth victory in six Ligue 1 matches and a third in a row since a 3-2 home loss to Lille on Matchday 34. Lyon’s recent league games have been fun to watch, with each of the last four seeing over 4.5 goals and both teams scoring. Remarkably, ‘Les Gones’ have found the back of the net in 17 consecutive Ligue 1 outings and could equal the record set in 1961 with another strike here. Worryingly, though, Lyon have suffered three losses in their last six home Ligue 1 fixtures (W3), as many defeats as they had in Rudi Garcia’s first 21 matches in charge (W12, D6). The hosts now take on a side they have beaten only twice in their last six top-flight meetings held at this venue (D2, L2).

In the meantime, the visitors have alternated a victory (2) and defeat (3) across their last five Ligue 1 outings since a goalless draw with Reims in early April, with each loss in this sequence yielding the same 2-0 scoreline. Furthermore, after going unbeaten in three consecutive league trips (W2, D1), ‘Les Aiglons’ have suffered back-to-back reverses on the road and could now lose three in a row for the first time since December 2019 (6 that time). Curiously, Adrian Ursea’s men remain the only side yet to score from outside the box in Ligue 1 this calendar year. Slow-starting Nice have got on the scoresheet by the 15th minute in just 16.22% of their league matches this season (6/37).

The post Olympique Lyonnais vs Nice appeared first on Bet888win.

Sevilla vs Deportivo Alaves

Sevilla and Deportivo Alaves will lock horns at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in the ultimate round of the 2020/21 La Liga season this weekend.

Sevilla have suffered a dip in form down the final stretch, having picked up just one win in their last four La Liga matches (D2, L1), with each result (win/loss) in this sequence seeing the victor keep a clean sheet. Interestingly, Julen Lopetegui’s men have drawn a league-lowest 5.56% of their home La Liga games this season (GP18 – W13, D1, L4), with 82.35% of their home fixtures won/lost so far yielding a blank sheet. Since succumbing to a 1-0 loss in January 2018, ‘Los Nervionenses’ have gone undefeated in their subsequent six La Liga meetings with Alaves (W4, D2) and are unbeaten in their last nine top-flight H2Hs as hosts (W7, D2). Worryingly, the Andalusian giants have lost twice in their three home league games against Basque visitors this season (W1), having avoided defeat in their previous 16 at home against such rivals in the competition (W12, D4).

On the other hand, after going winless in three straight La Liga matches (D2, L1), Alaves have secured back-to-back triumphs – each by a two-goal margin – to extend their top-flight status for another season. Javier Calleja’s men last put together three consecutive La Liga wins in October 2018 under previous boss Abelardo Fernandez. Before a 2-0 victory over Elche in their most recent La Liga trip, Alaves had gone winless in 12 away league games on the spin (D4, L8), failing to find the back of the net seven times in the process. For Deportivo, goals have been in short supply on the road this season, with only Getafe (13) registering fewer away La Liga strikes than Alaves (15) thus far. At the other end of the pitch, they have recorded a clear majority (70.97%) of their total away league goals conceded this term in the second half of play (22/31).

Lens vs Monaco

Monaco head to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis to take on sixth-placed Lens in the ultimate round of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season.

After going unbeaten in 13 Ligue 1 matches on the trot (W6, D7), Lens have now suffered three consecutive league defeats, with the last two yielding the identical 3-0 scoreline. Before a 3-0 loss to Lille in their most recent home Ligue 1 outing, each of their previous five home games in the competition had seen both teams scoring, with four of them featuring 3+ FT goals. Since running out 3-0 victors in the 2009/10 Ligue 1 campaign, ‘Sang et Or’ have gone winless in their subsequent four home league meetings with Monaco (D2, L2), conceding 2+ goals on each occasion at an average of 2.75 per match. Furthermore, Franck Haise’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 13 Ligue 1 fixtures.

Meanwhile, Monaco have an outside chance of winning the league title, though they need results to go their way. Ahead of the kick-off, ‘Les Monégasques’ have won seven of their last eight Ligue 1 matches (L1), netting an average of 2.57 goals across those victories. Niko Kovac’s men have been equally impressive at the other end of the pitch, having kept a blank sheet in four away league games in a row. If they manage to shut Lens out, Monaco will equal the club record for five consecutive away clean sheets in the top flight. But the visitors have ended up on the losing side in all five Ligue 1 fixtures on the road in which they conceded first this season. Curiously, none of Monaco’s 18 Ligue 1 games in which they were in front at half-time this season have ended level (W16, L2).

Brest vs PSG

16th-placed Brest welcome title contenders Paris Saint-Germain to the Stade Francis-Le Blé in the ultimate round of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season.

Brest have picked up one victory in nine Ligue 1 games ahead of the kick-off (D4, L4) and are winless in the last three in a row since beating Saint-Etienne 2-1 on the road in late April. At home, ‘Les Pirates’ have gone winless in four consecutive league matches (D3, L1) since 3-1 win against Dijon, frustratingly scoring under 1.5 goals on each occasion. With the prospect of relegation from Ligue 1 looming, Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men go up against a side they have lost to in their last three top-flight H2Hs as hosts by an aggregate score of 10-3. Delivering action from the get-go, Brest have scored a league joint-high 21 first-half goals on home turf this season. However, only Montpellier (18) have conceded fewer home goals in that same timeframe than Brest (17) so far.

Sitting one point adrift of top-placed Lille, PSG must acquire all three points here and hope ‘Les Dogues’ won’t win at Angers to secure a fourth consecutive domestic crown. ‘Les Parisiens’ have won five of their last six Ligue 1 matches (D1), scoring an intimidating average of 3.2 goals across those victories. Before being held to a 1-1 draw to Rennes in their most recent league trip, PSG had racked up six consecutive Ligue 1 victories on the road, five of which came by at least a two-goal margin. Notably, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have netted the opening goal in a league-high 14 away matches this season. The visitors have only been trailing for a total of 51 minutes on the road so far in 2020/21. However, they haven’t won any of the three away Ligue 1 games in which they conceded first this term (D1, L2).

Angers vs Lille

Lille head to the Stade Raymond-Kopa to meet injury-hit Angers, looking to claim all three points and end PSG’s three-year tenure in Ligue 1.

Since being held to a 1-1 home stalemate to Montpellier in early April, Angers haven’t drawn any of their subsequent six Ligue 1 matches (W1, L5), with five of those results (win/loss) seeing the victor keep a clean sheet. Before a 3-0 thumping of Dijon in their most recent home Ligue 1 outing, the hosts had gone winless in six home league games on the bounce (D2, L4). Furthermore, ‘Les Scoïstes’ lost this exact fixture 2-1 back in 2019/21 after avoiding defeat in four consecutive top-flight meetings with Lille at home beforehand (W3, D1). Alarmingly, Stéphane Moulin’s men have failed to win any of their previous 17 Ligue 1 matches against a club starting the day at the top of the tree (D2, L15), losing the last eight in a row.

Lille have gone into overdrive since succumbing to a shocking 2-1 home defeat to Nimes on Matchday 30, putting together seven straight Ligue 1 games without a loss (W5, D2). They enter the season finale with a single-point lead on reigning champions PSG, having won 11 of their last 12 away Ligue 1 matches, with a goalless draw at Monaco in mid-March being the lone exception in this run. Christophe Galtier’s men have been a rock-solid defensive unit this season, conceding a league-low 22 Ligue 1 goals so far. Additionally, ‘Les Dogues’ have kept a clean sheet in the division-highest 61.11% of their away league fixtures this term (11/18), including four of the last five. The one concern could be a lack of concentration before half-time that has seen Lille register seven of their 11 away Ligue 1 goals conceded arrive in the first half of play.

Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion will trade tackles at the Emirates Stadium this weekend in the final matchday of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Arsenal have hit a purple patch of form since suffering a 1-0 home loss to Everton on Matchday 33, putting together four straight Premier League victories to climb to within a single point from a top-seven finish. Notably, each triumph during that four-match run saw the ‘Gunners’ win the first half ‘to nil,’ with three of them producing a winning margin of exactly two goals. Before thrashing relegated West Brom 3-1 in their most recent Premier League outing at home, Mikel Arteta’s men had failed to win six consecutive home fixtures in all competitions (D3, L3). In fact, the Londoners have scored more goals against WBA than in those six matches combined. Following a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, Arsenal could do a league double over Brighton for the first time since the 1980/81 season.

Meanwhile, the visitors have claimed two triumphs in their last four Premier League outings (D1, L1), as many as they managed in their previous 11 in the competition (D4, L5). Although Brighton outscored Arsenal 2-1 in this exact fixture back in 2019/20, it remains their solitary top-flight success against the London giants in the capital from seven attempts (D2, L4). Since beating Southampton 2-1 on Matchday 28, the ‘Seagulls’ have failed to land all three points in their subsequent four Premier League trips (D1, L3), with all three reverses coming by a single-goal margin. Worryingly, Graham Potter’s men have netted 2+ goals in only 27.78% of their away Premier League games this season (5/18), with only Wolverhampton (15) scoring fewer league goals on the road than Brighton (18) in 2020/21.
