Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace 09/01/21

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace will lock horns at Molineux Stadium in the FA Cup Round 3.

Wolves have won none of their four competitive fixtures since defeating Chelsea 2-1 on December 15 (D2, L2), alternating between a draw and a loss on each occasion. Much of Wolverhampton’s troubles are related to a lack of composure in front of goal that has seen the ‘Wanderers’ score under 1.5 goals in five of their last seven competitive matches. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have suffered just one defeat in their seven previous home games (W3, D3) despite conceding the opening goal in each of the last four. Low scoring has been a theme for Wolves at home lately, as six of their last seven competitive games here have featured under 2.5 goals. Interestingly, each of the three previous competitive meetings between these two here has yielded the identical 2-0 scoreline (W2, L1).

Meanwhile, a 2-0 home victory over Sheffield United to begin 2021 has brought Crystal Palace’s five-game winless streak to an end (D3, L2), marking only their first clean sheet in all competitions since mid-September. But, the ‘Eagles’ have let in at least one goal in each of their last eight competitive road trips, conceding an average of 1.75 goals per game in this sequence. At the other end of the pitch, Roy Hodgson’s men have drawn a blank in three of their five previous away fixtures, which has happened in their last two competitive trips to Molineux. Interestingly, though, each of their last five competitive games won/lost have been decided by at least a two-goal margin (W2, L3).
