Kaya vs Viettel

The two sides that had lost their previous AFC Champions League encounters will lock horns at the Thammasat Stadium as Kaya take on Viettel in the second round of Group F fixtures.

Kaya will be desperate to bounce back from a horrendous 4-1 away loss to Pathum United in their Group F opener, with that defeat marking their first reverse in ten competitive games (W5, D4). On the bright side, though, the ‘Lions’ have put together six straight home matches without a loss in all competitions (W4, D2), keeping a clean sheet on each occasion. It’s worth noting, though, that their last home fixture dates back to November 2020. Yet, with their four consecutive home games featuring under 1.5 total goals, you may assume a low-scoring contest is well on the cards. Indeed, a lack of firepower in the front third has seen Kaya score one goal or less in eight of their last nine competitive matches.

In the meantime, Viettel suffered a narrow 1-0 home loss to Ulsan Hyundai on Matchday 1, though they enter this clash as warm favorites to pick up all three points. The Vietnamese side had gone seven straight matches without losing in all competitions (W6, D1) before that reverse, despite scoring precisely once per match on four occasions during that stretch of games. Additionally, since going down 2-0 to domestic rivals Binh Duong in October 2020, the ‘Red Tornado’ have racked up an impressive ten-match unbeaten streak away from home (W8, D2). Curiously, though, each of their eight victories during the abovementioned ten-game sequence came via a single-goal margin, with six yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline.
