Celtic vs Midtjylland

Celtic and Midtjylland will face off against each other at Celtic Park in the first leg of their UFEA Champions League qualifying quarter-final tie.

A lack of competitive form could be a problem for Celtic, with the ‘Hoops’ experiencing mixed fortunes across their four warm-up fixtures (W2, D1, L1). Taking only competitive matches into account, the Scottish giants have picked up just one victory in their last five games (D2, L2), with three of those matches seeing one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet. However, Ange Postecoglou’s men are unbeaten in their previous seven home outings in all competitions (W6, D1), winning the last three in a row by an aggregate scoreline of 13-0. Celtic can also draw confidence from their overall European record against Danish opposition, having avoided defeat in 71.43% of their continental encounters against such rivals (GP14 – W7, D3, L4). Yet, this will be their first-ever meeting with Midtjylland.

Meanwhile, Midtjylland head into proceedings on the back of a dismal 2-1 home loss to Odense in the domestic championship, which leaves them at a single win in five competitive games (D1, L3). Despite Midtjylland’s underwhelming form, they have been fun to watch lately, with seven of their last eight matches in all competitions featuring over 2.5 total goals. Away from home, the ‘Ulvene’ have gone winless in their previous five competitive outings (D1, L4) since beating Aarhus 4-1 in early April, conceding 3+ goals in their last three road trips in a row. Additionally, Bo Henriksen’s men have picked up just one win from their previous seven away European games (D3, L3), frustratingly netting under 1.5 goals on six occasions.
