England vs Denmark

Wembley Stadium is the venue as England and Denmark battle it out for the remaining place in the Euro 2020 final.

England hammered Ukraine 4-0 in the quarter-finals in their only Euro 2020 contested away from Wembley to reach the semi-finals as the only nation yet to concede at the tournament so far. It seems the ‘Three Lions’ have picked up some steam following an underwhelming group stage campaign, netting six goals in their two knock-out fixtures after racking up just two in their three Group D outings. If they manage to keep Denmark at bay in London, Gareth Southgate’s team will become the first side to keep a clean sheet in each of their opening six games at the European Championships. Interestingly, each of the previous seven H2H meetings between these two nations at Wembley yielded the identical 1-0 scoreline, with England coming out on top five times (L2). Yet, they’ve failed to beat this opposition in five of their last six competitive encounters (D3, L2).

On the other hand, Denmark have managed to pick themselves up following an early shock that saw their headline performer Christian Eriksen suffer cardiac arrest on Matchday 1. After back-to-back defeats to start Euro 2020, the ‘Danish Dynamite’ have racked up three consecutive, netting an average of 3.33 goals per game in the process. Notably, only Spain (12) have netted more goals at a single major tournament than Denmar (11) heading into the semi-finals. Kasper Hjumland’s men have been nothing short of outstanding before half-time lately, winning the first half ‘to nil’ in each of their last four Euro 2020 fixtures. Curiously, OGC Nice striker Kasper Dolberg netted the opening goal within 30 minutes in Denmark’s knock-out stage matches against Wales and the Czech Republic, respectively. Even though they will start as underdogs in this showdown, the Danes can draw inspiration from shutting England out in both of their previous competitive clashes (W1, D1).
