Pathum United will be looking to all but cement a top-two finish in the AFC Champions League Group F when they take on out-of-sorts Kaya at the Thammasat Stadium.
Kaya will wave goodbye to the Champions League regardless of the outcome of this affair, having lost their opening four group stage fixtures by an aggregate score of 14-2. Except for a 2-1 away loss to Ulsan Hyundai last time out, the ‘Lions’ have conceded 3+ goals in each of their remaining three Group F matches. They have not only failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their eight Champions League halves played this term, but they conceded over 1.5 first-half goals on three occasions so far. Encouragingly, though, one of Kaya’s two group stage goals scored arrived against Pathum United, though it provided little consolation to Graham Harvey as his side went down 4-1. Interestingly, each of Kaya’s last nine competitive home games saw one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet.
On the other hand, Pathum United are on the verge of reaching the knock-out stages on the back of three victories from their opening four Group F contests (L1). The ‘Rabbits’ have claimed three multi-goal triumphs, with a 2-0 away defeat to Ulsan Hyundai on Matchday 2 being the solitary exception. Regardless of what happens in the other game, Aurelio Vidmar’s team will secure a place in the knock-outs if they stay unbeaten here. But, Pathum’s victory might not be a foregone conclusion, considering they had gone three away matches without winning (D1, L2) before outscoring Viettel 3-1 last time out. It was also the first time in five road trips in all competitions that Pathum scored 2+ goals, though it also marked their fourth consecutive away game without a clean sheet.
