Brest vs PSG

Paris Saint-Germain head to the Stade Francis-Le Blé to take on Brest, looking to maintain a 100% start to the new Ligue 1 season.

Brest’s new Ligue 1 campaign started with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Lyon and Rennes, respectively, stretching the hosts’ winless league streak to six (D3, L3). Moreover, ‘Les Pirates’ have failed to win any of their last six Ligue 1 outings on home turf (D4, L2), netting a miserly average of 0.66 goals per game in that sequence. Seeking their first top-flight home victory over PSG since January 1985 (D2, L5), Brest will be looking to defy underdog status here. However, Mikel Der Zakarian’s side often crumbled in such contests last season, having won just 33.33% of their home Ligue 1 fixtures they started as outsiders in 2020/21. That trend looks likely to continue here, especially considering they have drawn a blank in five of their last seven Ligue 1 H2Hs as hosts.

On the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain’s path to redemption following last season’s runners-up finish got off to a flyer as they’ve won their opening two Ligue 1 matches after netting 2+ goals within 30 minutes of play. Despite failing to keep a clean sheet in both those victories, ‘Les Parisiens’ will be confident of registering a shutout against Brest, as only eventual champions Lille had more away blank sheets than them (10) last term. With the marquee summer signing Lionel Messi waiting in the wings to make his PSG debut, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten away Ligue 1 run to ten straight games (W8, D1). If they win here, it is likely to be in emphatic fashion, knowing six of their eight wins during that nine-game sequence yielding a winning margin of 2+ goals.
