Resurgent Juventus will look to keep their form curve on the upward trajectory when they meet cross-town rivals Torino at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in an intriguing Serie A clash.
Torino have performed in patches this Serie A season, starting with a brace of losses, then racking up a pair of victories before finally settling for a couple of draws despite taking the lead on both occasions. Despite their inconsistency, ‘I Granata’ getting on the scoresheet has been the only common denominator, with Ivan Juric’s men finding the net in all six Serie A fixtures so far, on an average of 1.5 per match. But Torino’s hopes of maintaining their four-game unbeaten league streak are hanging by a thread here. Indeed, ‘Il Toro’ have secured just one victory in the last 30 Serie A Derby della Mole editions (D7, L22), incidentally doing so during Massimiliano Allegri’s previous tenure at Juventus. But they might at least be able to hold Juve winless, having drawn the division’s most 13 Serie A matches in 2021 so far.
On the other hand, Juventus are gradually building momentum following a thoroughly disappointing start to the season, going from three straight Serie A games without a victory (D1, L2) to winning four of their last five outings in all competitions (D1). In fact, after going winless in their first four top-flight games this term (D2, L2), ‘I Bianconeri’ have won the last two in a row by the same 3-2 scoreline. Despite their upturn in form, including a hard-earned 1-0 home win over Chelsea in the Champions League midweek, Allegri’s men continue to struggle defensively, having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 20 Serie A fixtures. They could match the club’s longest-ever top-flight run without a shutout, conceding in 21 straight league games between January and October 1955.
