Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to extend their eight-match unbeaten run at Goodison Park in the Premier League (W3, D5) when they take on Everton this weekend.

After securing four victories in his first seven Premier League matches in charge of Everton (D2, L1), Rafael Benitez is starting to feel the heat. The ‘Toffees’ have lost three consecutive league games, including a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Watford in their most recent outing at Goodison, sliding to the bottom half of the table. A win here would be welcome, but after picking up just one triumph in their last 17 Premier League meetings with Tottenham (D8, L8), it could be easier said than done. Benitez himself has an ulterior motive, having lost each of his last four Premier League fixtures against ‘Spurs’ as a manager after suffering just two of 14 in the competition beforehand (W7, D5).

Meanwhile, after guiding his side to an action-packed 3-2 win over Vitesse in the Europa Conference League, new manager Antonio Conte will be looking to paint his Premier League debut as a Tottenham boss with flying colors. Conte’s first task in the dugout will be to bring the Londoners’ two-game losing league streak to a halt and help the supporters get over a painful 3-0 loss to Manchester United last time out. Conte has fond memories of his previous Premier League duels with Everton, having avoided defeat in all four matches against them in the competition as a Chelsea manager (W3, D1). Worryingly, though, ‘Spurs’ have netted a measly nine goals in their first ten Premier League games this season, their lowest goals tally at this stage of the competition since 2013/14.
