Real Betis and Sevilla will lock horns in an all-Andalusian La Liga match-up at the Estadio Benito VillamarĂn.
Real Betis followed up a 3-0 thrashing to Atletico Madrid with a 4-0 walloping at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen in Europa League action and have everything to prove in the 101st Seville derby in La Liga. ‘Los Verdiblancos’ can find comfort in their recent home form, though, having turned a three-match winless La Liga start at home (D2, L1) into a three-game winning streak. Adding to their confidence, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have netted 2+ goals in four top-flight home matches in a row, a feat they’ve failed to achieve in their last four La Liga H2Hs (D1, L3). What’s more, Betis have avoided defeat in the last five Andalusian derbies on home turf (W2, D3), including all four under the stewardship of current boss Pellegrini (W2, D2).
In the meantime, Sevilla stuttered at home against Lille in midweek Champions League action (1-2), once again highlighting a lack of consistency that continues to torment them this season. None of Sevilla’s last nine competitive fixtures have seen the identical outcome repeats twice on the trot (W4, D3, L2). However, Julen Lopetegui’s men have been a force to be reckoned with in La Liga this term, suffering just one defeat in their opening 11 league matches (W7, D3) but none in the last four (W3, D1). ‘Los Rojiblancos’ could keep that momentum ticking on here, having only lost one of their previous 12 La Liga away meetings with Betis (W4, D7), courtesy of a 1-0 reverse in September 2018 under Pablo Machin. Yet, it’s worth noting that they’ve scored under 1.5 goals in all six top-flight travels this season (W2, D3, L1).
