Manchester United vs Young Boys

Old Trafford is the venue as Manchester United and Young Boys go head-to-head in their final UEFA Champions League Group F showdown.

Since falling to a 2-1 defeat at Young Boys on the opening matchday, Manchester United have gone unbeaten in their last four Champions League matches (W3, D1) en route to reaching the knock-outs with a game to spare. Having avoided defeat in their previous four Champions League outings, the Premier League powerhouse could make it five consecutive games in the competition without losing for the first time since 2013/14. Though they head into proceedings as clear-cut favorites, the ‘Red Devils’ may play with their fans’ nerves for a while, as each of their three Group F victories this season came via goals scored beyond the 75th minute of play. After launching his interim charge with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace at the weekend, Ralf Rangnick may field a mixed squad.

In the meantime, Young Boys have failed to build on their come-from-behind win over Man United on Matchday 1, going winless in their subsequent four Group F matches (D1, L3), including an enthralling 3-3 home draw with Atalanta last time out. Though rooted to the foot of the table ahead of the group finale, the Swiss side can still switch over the Europa League knock-out stages. However, a victory at Old Trafford would suffice if coupled with Atalanta’s slump against Villarreal in the other Group F encounter. To even keep their end of the bargain, Young Boys will have to snap a frustrating six-game losing streak in their away continental games. Pouring gasoline on the fire, they failed to find the back of the net five times during that six-match sequence.
