PSG vs Club Brugge

Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge go head-to-head at the Parc des Princes in the ultimate round of the UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures.

Regardless of events on Matchday 6, PSG are guaranteed to qualify for the knock-out stages as runners-up, though they are clear-cut favorites to claim the three points here. After a four-game unbeaten start to their Group A campaign (W2, D2), ‘Les Parisiens’ turned a 1-0 second-half lead into a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City and will be looking to bounce back against Brugge. But Mauricio Pochettino’s men go into proceedings on the back of an underwhelming 1-1 Ligue 1 draw at Lens at the weekend, which was the case in the reverse fixture in Belgium back in September. Yet, Paris are unbeaten in their three previous Champions League meetings with Brugge (W2, D1), including a narrow 1-0 triumph in their only match-up at the Parc des Princes so far back in November 2019.

In the meantime, Club Brugge start Matchday 6 bottom of Group A, albeit level on points with third-placed RB Leipzig, meaning they’d need to better the Germans’ result against Man City to switch over to the Europa League knock-outs. However, Brugge’s horrific overall record on French soil sums up their underdog status in a nutshell, with the Belgians failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their 11 European fixtures in the country, conceding an average of 2.45 goals per game in the process. Topically, they’ve conceded at least once in each of their last eight Champions League away matches since registering a shutout at Borussia Dortmund in November 2018, while they’ve not kept a clean sheet in their eight previous competitive travels ahead of the kick-off.
