Burnley vs Liverpool

Burnley came from behind to hold Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in midweek, making it three Premier League stalemates in a row as they take the field nailed to the bottom of the standings. Despite showing fighting spirits of late, the ‘Clarets’ have to start winning if they are to retain their top-flight status beyond the summer, having won just one of their 20 Premier League matches so far this season (D11, L9). Moreover, each of Burnley’s last four home league games has ended level, with Sean Dyche’s side coming from behind to avoid defeat twice in that period. The home team’s hopes of posting only their second Premier League win of the season look rather slim, considering that they’ve lost six of their seven encounters against Liverpool at Turf Moor in the competition (W1).

On the other hand, the ‘Reds’ have hit the ground running in the Premier League since a New Year’s Day 2-2 draw at Chelsea, putting together three victories by an aggregate score of 8-1, including a midweek 2-0 home win over Leicester City. With a game in hand on table-topping Manchester City, Liverpool still have realistic hopes of closing down a nine-point gap on the reigning champions. However, they can ill-afford a slip-up in Lancashire, and their run of five consecutive league triumphs over sides starting the day rooted to the foot of the table comes in handy. Additionally, Jurgen Klopp’s men have been nothing if not prolific on the road this season, netting a staggering 33 goals after just 12 Premier League travels, at least ten more than any other side in the competition so far.
