Udinese vs Torino

Udinese and Torino are set to face off against each other at the Dacia Arena in a mid-table Serie A contest, with the visitors looking to make a last-ditch attempt to interfere in a European qualification battle.

January’s international break came at an opportune moment for Udinese, who have started the new calendar year with a whimper rather than a bang, going winless in all three Serie A matches (D1, L2). Barring a scoreless draw with Genoa last time out, ‘I Friulani’ have lost their remaining two league games in 2022 by a 2+ goal margin, sliding down to 15th in the standings. Yet, there’s still one positive here, with Udinese going unbeaten in six of their last ten Serie A meetings with sides starting the matchday above them in the table (W1, D5). Worryingly, though, they’ve picked up just one victory in their last six top-flight H2Hs as hosts (D2, L3), netting under 1.5 goals four times in that sequence.

Meanwhile, Torino have gone from strength to strength at the start of 2022, racking up a three-game unbeaten run in Serie A (W2, D1) after losing two of their final three league fixtures of 2021 (W1). A come-from-behind 2-1 triumph at Sampdoria in their most recent Serie A road trip halted Torino’s underwhelming streak of seven away league games without winning (D2, L5). Seeking back-to-back top-flight wins on hostile turf for the first time this season, ‘I Granata’ will draw confidence from their 12-game form against Udinese in Serie A (W7, D3, L2). What’s more, they have won each of their last four league meetings with this opposition played in the second half of the season without conceding a single goal.
