Wolfsburg vs Greuther Fürth

Volkswagen Arena is the venue as Wolfsburg and Greuther Fürth go head-to-head in a Bundesliga relegation six-pointer.

An abysmal three-game start to the new calendar year (D1, L2) has seen Wolfsburg’s misery in the Bundesliga reach a new low as they head into proceedings languishing in the dreaded play-off spot. Winless in their last nine top-flight outings on the trot (D2, L7), ‘Die Wolfe’ are experiencing their longest such run in the Bundesliga since 2009/10. Additionally, they have failed to get on the scoresheet in any of their three league matches in 2022 so far. Having gone 399 minutes without finding the net, Wolfsburg are only 58 minutes shy of the club’s negative record in the competition from the 2012/13 season. So Fürth’s arrival at the Volkswagen Arena comes at the best possible moment for Wolfsburg, considering that they are unbeaten in their last four competitive H2Hs (W3, D1).

As for Greuther Fürth, a 2-1 home victory over Mainz last time out ended their run of four Bundesliga games without a win (D3, L1), marking only their second top-flight success in 20 matches this season (D4, L14). However, the visitors need nothing short of a miracle to avoid relegation this term, as they already trail safety by a whopping 12 points. Unfortunately, playing away from home is unlikely to help their cause. The ‘Kleeblätter’ have picked up just a single point from their ten Bundesliga road trips this season (D1, L9), conceding a league-highest average of 3.6 goals in the process. In fact, Stefan Leitl’s men have shipped 2+ goals in each of their ten Bundesliga travels so far, highlighting the possibility for another underwhelming weekend.
