Porto vs Lyon

Estadio do Dragao is the venue as Porto and Lyon go head-to-head in the first leg of their tasty-looking UEFA Europa League last-16 tie.

Porto came out on top of their tricky knock-out play-off tie against Lazio, securing a come-from-behind 2-1 first-leg win at home before eking out a 2-2 draw in Rome. Having failed to make it out of the Champions League group stages for the fifth time running, the runaway Primeira Liga leaders are now looking to improve on their decent all-time record in the Europa League round of 16 (W2, L1). Notably, the ‘Dragons’ have won all five home games in the Europa League knock-outs from the round of 16 onwards, while they are currently enjoying a nine-game unbeaten run at Dragao in all competitions (W7, D2). In fact, since exiting the Champions League group phase, Sergio Conceicao’s men have gone undefeated in all 18 competitive outings (W15, D3), scoring 2+ goals in 14 of them.

In the meantime, Lyon found their Europa League Group A campaign a stroll, winning all but one of their six group fixtures (D1) to advance to the knock-outs with the most points won in the group phase. ‘Les Gones’ have now won more Europa League matches (26) than any other French club, scoring the most goals (86) in the process. Additionally, they have been victorious in each of their last five Europa League away games, including a pair of knock-out wins away to Villarreal and CSKA Moscow in their most recent participation in the competition four years ago. However, Lyon’s overall European record against Portuguese clubs reads indifferently W5, D4, L6. Moreover, Peter Bosz’s men have delivered a mixed bag of performances on the road of late (W1, D1, L1), failing to keep a clean sheet on each occasion.
