Stadion Rajko Mitic plays host to an all-Yugoslovenian derby between Serbia and Slovenia in the second round of UEFA Nations League Group B4.
It’s not been a dream start to the new UEFA Nations League campaign for Serbia by any stretch of the imagination. Dragan Stojkovic’s side lost 1-0 to Norway at home in their group curtain-raiser, making it two defeats ‘to nil’ in a row. That’s a significant drop-off after a run of seven wins from eight matches (D1), during which they netted 3+ goals on four occasions. Worryingly, the Serbs are now winless in all five Nations League home games they started as pre-match favourites since the start of 2020 (D3, L2). But Serbia can fall back on a remarkable scoring output at home of late, having bagged 3+ goals in three consecutive home outings before the aforementioned defeat to Norway.
On the other hand, Slovenia succumbed to a dismal 2-0 home loss to Sweden in their Group B4 opener, conceding inside the final ten minutes of each half. With their four-game unbeaten run in international action now gone (W1, D3), the Slovenians will hope to improve on an underwhelming streak of three successive draws on the road. Since the previous edition of the UEFA Nations League, Matjaz Kek’s men have picked up just one win from eight matches on foreign soil (D3, L3). Moreover, they’ve gone winless in all four road trips they started as betting outsiders in that run (D2, L2).
