Balestier Khalsa vs Geylang International

Out-of-sorts Geylang International head to the Toa Payoh Stadium to entertain fellow Singapore Premier League strugglers Balestier Khalsa.

Balestier Khalsa squeezed past Premier League basement boys Young Lions 1-0 last time out, arresting an abysmal streak of five consecutive league defeats. However, they have performed in patches this season, as evidenced by their indifferent Premier League home record (W2, D1, L3). Indeed, the hosts have gone from back-to-back home league victories to losing their last two top-flight outings on home turf. But the Toa Payoh Stadium has been a venue of entertainment this term. Each of Balestier’s six home league fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with four featuring at least four goals. Topically, three of their last four home league H2Hs have contained 3+ strikes.

Meanwhile, Geylang International eked out a 1-0 home triumph over Tanjong Pagar last time out, ending an underwhelming run of 11 winless Premier League matches (D4, L7). However, they can ill-afford to rest on their laurels, as they seek only their first top-flight away win this season (D1, L5). Geylang’s defensive frailties have seen them concede a league joint-high 19 goals on the road this term, at an average of 3.16 per game. Particularly vulnerable beyond the break, they’ve registered another league joint-worst 12 second-half goals conceded away from home. It’s also worth noting that only Balestier (4) and Hougang (5) have netted fewer away league goals than the ‘Eagles’ (6) this term.v
