Dignity Health Sports Park will be under the spotlight when Los Angeles Galaxy lock horns with Montreal in the latest installment of their long-standing Major League Soccer rivalry.
Despite an eye-catching start to their new MLS campaign, Los Angeles Galaxy’s hopes of advancing to the playoffs are hanging by a thread. Level on points with eighth-placed Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference, Greg Vanney’s men hope to make their two games in hand count. Yet, Galaxy’s out-of-sorts six-game MLS form (W1, D2, L3) implies they may take the field with their confidence at an all-time low. And a three-match winless home streak across all competitions (D1, L2) further supports this claim. But Galaxy won’t have to look beyond their supreme overall MLS home record against Montreal (W3, D1) to find much-needed inspiration. It’s also worth noting that they recorded three shutouts across those four H2Hs.
On the other hand, Montreal may be lamenting a horrendous H2H record in Los Angeles, but they’ve been nothing short of impressive in the league this season. They come into this matchday enjoying themselves at the top of the Eastern Conference, albeit they are level on points with two other top-table candidates. If there was a time to break their ‘Galaxy hoodoo,’ now is the one, as Wilfried Nancy’s lads take this trip after winning three of their last four MLS fixtures (L1). On top of that, they have accrued four victories across their previous four MLS games on the road (L1), netting 2+ goals in each success.
