Yankee Stadium is the venue as New York City and New England Revolution go head-to-head in an exciting Major League Soccer showdown.
New York City’s eye-catching run of four victorious MLS fixtures now looks like a distant memory, as they head into proceedings having won none of their last four league matches (D3, L1). The home side’s underwhelming spell of form has seen them surrender the top spot in the Eastern Conference to New York Red Bulls. But they have been fun to watch, at least, with their last three MLS games seeing 3+ goals and both teams scoring. That has been the case in five of their previous seven league H2Hs at home, highlighting the potential for a high-scoring contest. Yet, a run of four clean sheets from the ‘Pigeons’ last six home league outings contrasts that claim.
On the other hand, New England Revolution come into this matchday unbeaten in ten MLS matches (W4, D6), though three of their last four league outings have ended as a draw (W1). Occupying the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, they have a point to prove at Yankee Stadium. However, New England’s lacklustre away from this MLS season (W2, D3, L3) could throw a spanner in the works. Interestingly, though, scoring has not been an issue for the ‘Revs,’ as they had netted 2+ goals in five consecutive MLS road trips before a goalless draw at Vancouver Whitecaps last time out.
