Seoul World Cup Stadium is the venue as Seoul and Daegu go head-to-head in a potentially ‘winner takes all’ K League 1 fixture.
Seoul’s hopes of securing a K League 1 playoff berth are hanging by a thread after an underwhelming run of five winless league matches (D2, L3) left them five points adrift of the playoff line. It gets worse, as they have alternated between losing (3) and drawing (2) across their last five home league outings following a 1-0 triumph over Pohang Steelers in mid-May. Daegu’s forthcoming visit to the Seoul World Cup Stadium will unlikely dole out any favours to Seoul’s bid to get back to winning ways, as they’ve won none of their last three top-flight H2Hs as hosts (D2, L1), failing to score twice in that sequence.
In the meantime, a last-gasp penalty helped seventh-placed Daegu rescue a 1-1 draw against table-topping Ulsan Hyundai last time out, making it four K League 1 stalemates on the bounce. The visitors have established themselves as ‘draw specialists’ this season, with 52% of their top-flight fixtures ending level (11/21). Alexandre Gama’s men have not fared well on the road this term, racking up zero victories from their ten away league matches (D7, L3), including six draws in a row, five of which yielded an identical 1-1 scoreline. On a more positive note, they’ve come from behind to avoid losing in two out of three away league games in which they conceded first this term (D2, L1).
