Daegu vs Jeonbuk Motors

DGB Daegu Bank Park is the venue as Daegu and Jeonbuk Motors go head-to-head in an all-South Korean AFC Champions first-round knock-out tie.

Daegu finished top of AFC Champions League Group F, courtesy of a superior H2H record over runners-up Urawa Reds, having lost just one of their six group outings (W4, D1, L1). Despite netting 14 goals across those six group fixtures, Daegu’s attacking set-up often failed to live up to expectations. After bagging just one goal in three Group F matches, Alexandre Gama’s side slotted home 2+ goals in their final two group games to slightly improve their overall scoring record in continental action. However, playing Jeonbuk often spells trouble for Daegu, as witnessed by their ongoing four-match winless H2H streak against fierce domestic rivals (D2, L2).

In the meantime, despite going unbeaten in all six Group H fixtures (W3, D3), Jeonbuk Motors finished second in their section, a point adrift of group winners Yokohama F. Marinos. Unlike Daegu, the ‘Warriors’ found the Champions League goals hard to come by, scoring an underwhelming average of 1.16 goals per Group H game. Indeed, Kim Sang-sik’s men netted under 1.5 goals in five of their six group matches, suggesting they could struggle for goals at the DGB Daegu Bank Park. Against this backdrop, they have scored at least twice in six of their last eight competitive visits to this venue. But after notching up under 1.5 goals in two of their three most recent H2Hs away from home, Jeonbuk can ill-afford to get complacent.
