Leicester City vs Manchester United

Leicester City and Manchester United go head-to-head in the final midweek Premier League fixture at the King Power Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers’ future at the King Power is hanging by a thread after his Leicester City side started the new Premier League season with a four-match winless run (D1, L3). In fact, the ‘Foxes’ head into this round nailed to the bottom of the table despite scoring the openers in both home league outings this term (D1, L1). Having lost their last three Premier League outings on the bounce, the Midlanders are facing the risk of equalling their longest losing streak in England’s top-flight since 2017. Ominously for Rodgers, Claudio Ranieri was the last Leicester manager to lose four consecutive Premier League fixtures, which eventually saw him sacked. But on the bright side, his men are unbeaten in their previous four league meetings with Man Utd (W2, D2), their best H2H streak since 1977.

In the meantime, Erik ten Hag has turned Manchester United’s fortunes around following an abysmal start to the season. After losing his opening two Premier League games in charge, the Dutch manager has led Man Utd to back-to-back league triumphs, including a 1-0 win at Southampton over the weekend. More importantly, that victory at St Mary’s Stadium arrested United’s dismal run of seven successive Premier League defeats outside Old Trafford. With their spirits bolstered by their sudden upturn in form, the ‘Red Devils’ will be looking to maintain their free-scoring run against Leicester that’s seen them find the net in their last 26 Premier League H2Hs. Another success here would see Man Utd string together three top-flight wins for the first time in 2022. To do that, ten Hag will have to tighten up United’s defence that has conceded 2+ goals in both previous Premier League visits to Leicester (D1, L1).
