PSG vs Brest

Reigning Ligue 1 holders and current leaders Paris Saint-Germain entertain an underperforming Brest at the Parc des Princes.

PSG’s Ligue 1 title defence has been off to a flying start, with Christophe Galtier’s men picking up five wins and a draw from their opening six league matches. Too hot to handle in the front third, ‘Les Parisiens’ have racked up an intimidating +20 goal difference across those six games (GF24, GA4), with 23 of those 24 strikes coming from inside the box. PSG passed their maiden Champions League test with flying colours as Kylian Mbappe’s quick-fire first-half brace fired them to a 2-1 home win over Juventus in midweek. Hot favourites to take home another clear-cut triumph, the reigning Ligue 1 champions have won their last nine top-flight H2Hs, including four on the trot via multi-goal margins. Furthermore, they are unbeaten in 24 successive home league matches (W20, D4)!

Meanwhile, Brest failed to take advantage of being a man up against Strasbourg last time out, drawing 1-1 at home to take their winless Ligue 1 streak to three games (D1, L2). Brest’s underwhelming six-match league start (W1, D2, L3) suggests they could be in for a season-long fight against relegation, with four sides set to wave goodbye to Ligue 1 come June 2023. Michel Der Zakarian’s porous backline has already conceded 16 goals after the opening six league fixtures, setting an unwanted record at this stage in the competition’s history. Given they’ve let in 2+ goals in four of their last five league visits to Paris, you’d be forgiven for expecting their underwhelming defensive record to get worse this weekend.
