Situation in UEFA Nations League Group A1 is heating up as Denmark and Austria go head-to-head at Parken Stadium.
Denmark’s second failed attempt to find the net in 17 internationals culminated with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Croatia last time out. It has not only halted Denmark’s 100% two-game start to the new Nations League campaign but opened up Group A1. With just two points separating the top three sides in this group, the ‘Danish Dynamite’ will hope to get back to winning ways at home. Before losing to Croatia, Kasper Hjulmand’s men had won five successive home internationals in the post-Euro 2020 period by an aggregate score of 14-1. Denmark can draw confidence from going unbeaten in all five previous H2H held on home soil (W4, D1), finding the opening goal in the last four on the trot.
In the meantime, Austria were moments away from beating France a few days ago before Kylian Mbappe’s late equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw for ‘Les Bleus.’ Despite their indifferent three-game start to the new Nations League campaign (W1, D1, L1), the Austrians could still leapfrog Denmark into the top spot by winning here. Since quitting Euro 2020 last summer, Ralf Rangnick’s men have not drawn any of their six away internationals (W3, L3), highlighting their unpredictability. With four of those six results (win/loss) coming ‘to nil,’ scoring first will be a priority for ‘Das Team’ in Copenhagen. The visitors could pose a genuine attacking threat, having scored in seven of their last eight road trips.
